  • WAS Relief Pitcher #21
Tanner Rainey is unlikely to return to the Nationals bullpen this season.
Rainey has been on the shelf all season as he recovers from Tommy John surgery. He has a 3.52 ERA and eight strikes over 7 2/3 innings with Triple-A Rochester but his velocity has been noticeably down. There remains no timetable for his return but the team’s goal is for the 30-year-old to be ready to go for Spring Training.
  • LAA Shortstop #9
Zach Neto hit a two-run homer Monday to lead the Angels to a 5-3 win over the Brewers.
Angels manager Ron Washington has utterly refused to hit Neto in the top half of the order, but the 23-year-old has been one of the team’s best players in batting .249/.297/.440 with 10 homers in 260 plate appearances. He’s not yet a finished product and it’s possible he’ll struggle to reach his true potential while playing for one of MLB’s most dysfunctional franchises, but the sky really is the limit here.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #75
Zach Plesac delivered a quality start in his return to the majors Monday, yielding three runs in six innings in a victory over the Brewers.
Plesac, an emergency starter because of José Soriano’s abdominal issue, succeeded while averaging just 89.9 mph with his fastball, striking out only one batter and giving up two homers tonight. The Angels might try to make it happen again, but fantasy leaguers should stay far away.
  • LAA Relief Pitcher #53
Carlos Estévez threw a scoreless ninth with a two-run lead for a save Monday against the Brewers.
It was Estévez’s seventh consecutive perfect inning, a stretch that’s lowered his ERA from 5.06 to 3.52. He still doesn’t seem like a great bet going forward, but he certainly has it working now.
  • MIL Starting Pitcher #00
Carlos Rodriguez lost to the Angels after allowing five runs — four earned — in 4 2/3 innings Monday.
Rodriguez retired seven in a row to start the game, but things went south in the third and fourth, and Rodriguez wasn’t given a chance to pitch his way out of trouble in the fifth. It’s unclear if he’ll get another start after this, as the Brewers could have Jakob Junis replace him this weekend. The stuff is there for Rodriguez to be at least a useful bottom-of-the-rotation starter in the majors, but more Triple-A time is a possibility.
  • LAA Shortstop #2
Luis Rengifo came off the bench and struck out as a pinch-hitter Monday against the Brewers.
He then remained in to play two innings at third base. Rengifo didn’t start because of a wrist injury suffered Sunday, but it seems like he’ll be fine.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #65
James Paxton limited the Rockies to one run and two hits in seven innings to win at Coors Field on Monday.
It’s difficult to predict Paxton’s performances this season. He looked done 10 days ago after giving up seven runs and getting pulled in the second versus the Pirates, but he’s since bounced back by allowing two runs and four hits in 13 innings in his last two starts. The Yoshinobu Yamamoto injury took the idea of stashing Paxton on the IL off the board for the Dodgers. He still doesn’t seem like a great bet at this point, but he is a streaming option while pitching for one of baseball’s best teams.
  • COL Starting Pitcher #47
Cal Quantrill lost to the Dodgers after allowing three runs in five innings on Monday.
This could and probably should have been worse, given that Quantrill allowed seven hits and walked three, but it goes as a pretty routine loss. Quantrill dropped to 6-5 with a 3.43 ERA. The sooner the Rockies trade him, the better the return will be.
  • LAD First Baseman #5
Freddie Freeman singled and walked five times Monday against the Rockies.
Freeman became the first player to walk five times in a game since Matt Chapman on Aug. 12, 2021 and the first to both walk five times and collect a hit since, unbelievably, Rougned Odor on Aug. 2, 2018. Freeman had two runs scored and zero RBI to show for his success tonight.
  • LAD Shortstop #11
Miguel Rojas went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored against the Rockies on Monday.
Sure, Jazz Chisholm Jr. doesn’t seem to like him, but how badly did the Marlins botch things by trading Rojas for a prospect they didn’t even want a year and a half ago? Rojas is batting .292/.339/.460 in 121 plate appearances this season, and he’ll serve as the Dodgers’ primary shortstop while Mookie Betts is out. Meanwhile, the Marlins continue to roll with Tim Anderson, who might be the very worst player in the league.
  • COL Shortstop #2
Greg Jones hit his first major league homer as a pinch-hitter Monday against the Dodgers.
Jones, a longtime Rays prospect, took fellow former Rays pitcher JP Feyereisen deep tonight. It’s Jones’ first hit in five at-bats since his callup 11 days ago. The Rockies, who are suffering for their utter inability to manage a 40-man roster, have given Jones just one start since calling him up from Triple-A. All indications are that he’ll head back to the minors in the near future, but it still might make sense for Colorado to give him some at-bats in the meantime.
