Quote of the day: Reggie Jackson re: steroids
“It bothers me. A lot of Hall of Famers are very offended by this. I am starting to get affected and I am hoping that those guys that get caught don’t get into the Hall of Fame.’'
A day after Bob Gibson told ESPN’s “Mike & Mike” how conflicted he and many other players would feel if steroids were around during his era, a nuanced and surprising sentiment that he also told Bob Costas last summer, Reggie Jackson chimes in with your stock “steroids are bad” call-and-response.
Jackson, currently 12th on the all-time list with 563 home runs, does have reason to be peeved, as he has already been jumped by Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire, Alex Rodriguez and Rafael Palmeiro in recent years.
Who’s hot on his heels now? Jim Thome -- who has never been connected to anything, by the way, which needs to be made clear -- has 555 career homers while Manny Ramirez has 536.
