The NBA has put out a news release on how to avoid counterfeit All-Star gear during the league’s big weekend coming up, according to the Dallas Morning News’ Eddie Sefko.
Among the suggestions are shopping at NBA-authorized locations (naturally), looking for the league’s custom hologram, and avoiding items with ripped tags or irregular markings. Apparently this sort of thing happens quite a bit as the league mentions it has helped seize over 9 million articles of counterfeit gear since 1993. That’s a whole lot of Karl Malone lunchboxes right there.
It’s important to note that you should not report any All-Star gear with Allen Iverson on it to the authorities. Believe it or not, he is actually an All-Star. The police will likely tell you they are as baffled as you are.
The NBA All-Star Game is this Sunday, with Friday night opening things with the Rookie-Sophomores game (and celebrity game!), and the Dunk Contest, Shooting, and Skills competitions on Saturday night.
