Kiffin hints Crompton’s job on the line?

In the last two games --- both losses -- Tennessee quarterback Jonathan Crompton has completed less the 44 percent of his passes for 186 yards -- total -- and five interceptions. Oh, and he failed to find the end zone in the passing game as well.

Add all of that up, and you have fans forgetting about the five-touchdown performance in the opener against Western Kentucky and calling for Crompton’s proverbial head yet again.

But, yet again as well, head coach Lane Kiffin is standing by his man. Kinda. Sorta.

Kiffin said that some changes to the offense could be in the offing, stating that this would be a very big week of practice for “a lot of guys on the offensive line, the receiver group, special teams. We need to get better.”

There was no mention, of course, of Crompton. Thus, Kiffin was asked specifically about his current starting quarterback.

Jonathan needs to have a very good game this week, and we need to do a good job around him,” Kiffin said according to the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

So, is Kiffin saying that Crompton needs a very good game this week for his confidence? Or is the coach intimating that Crompton needs to have a very good game this week in order to keep his job?

Based on his play the last two games, it would seem the latter is closer to reality than the former.
