  • HOU Quarterback #7
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports the Texans are signing QB Tim Boyle to their practice squad.
Boyle spent time as the Jets starter earlier in the season, throwing just one touchdown to four interceptions in two games. He was released after Week 13 and now the Texans will add him to their practice squad. With C.J. Stroud still in concussion protocol, the team is padding its depth in case of a lengthy absence from the rookie. Boyle is mere practice squad depth and should not see the field unless anything happens to Case Keenum and Davis Mills.
  • DEN Punter #16
Broncos signed P Trenton Gill, formerly of the Bears.
Gill was waived by the Bears after they drafted Iowa punter Tory Taylor in the fourth round. Gill ranked near the bottom of the league in net yards per punt last year and struggled to pin opponents inside the 20. He will be fighting with Riley Dixon for the Broncos’ punting gig this summer.
  • NO Quarterback #4
The Saints will play the Raiders in Week 17.
Carr, who quarterbacked the Raiders from 2014 to 2022, will get a matchup against his former team on the second to last week of the regular season (and the final week of the fantasy football playoffs). Carr in 2023 threw for 3,888 yards, 25 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in his first season as Saints quarterback. His adjusted yards per attempt (7.3) was slightly above his career mark of 7.1. Neither the Saints nor the Raiders have a great chance to compete for a postseason berth in the season’s penultimate week.
  • HOU Quarterback #7
The Texans will play the Ravens on Christmas Day.
C.J. Stroud and the upstart Texans will get a rematch against Lamar Jackson’s Ravens as part of a three-game Christmas Day slate available on Netflix for the first time. Houston’s 2023 season ended with a Divisional Round loss to the Ravens — a 34-10 Baltimore win in which Stroud and the Texans offense were held scoreless in the second half. Stroud threw for a scoreless 175 yards on 33 attempts against a locked-in Ravens secondary on a frigid night. The Texans and Ravens should be jostling for postseason positioning by late December.
  • GB Quarterback #10
The Dolphins will host the Packers on Thanksgiving night.
The league appears very much willing to feature Jordan Love as a main attraction in 2024 after his outstanding 2023 campaign in which Love established himself as the latest in a line of long-term Green Bay QBs. The Packers will open the season against the Eagles in Brazil. Love and the Packers will take on Tua Tagovailoa in a primetime matchup on Thanksgiving night — a game that will feature plenty of offensive firepower on both sides.
  • CHI Running Back #4
Bears running backs coach Chad Morton said he’s “excited” about using D’Andre Swift as a pass catcher out of the backfield.
“I’ve been watching [Swift] since college,” said Morton, who worked under Bears OC Shane Waldron when Waldron coordinated the Seahawks’ offense. “He’s exciting to watch, man. That guy, he’s got so much ability. He’s fast, he can make guys miss and what we’re excited about now is just opening up the passing game with the backs. He’s got that opportunity to have that one-on-one matchup out of the backfield. We can get him out on empty (formation). We do a lot of empty stuff here, too, so we can move this guy all around. He can win from any spot.” Waldron’s offense didn’t exactly emphasize running back targets in Seattle. The Seahawks last year were 24th in target share to RBs (15 percent), with lead back Ken Walker seeing a meager 37 targets over 15 games. Swift, meanwhile, wasn’t an effective pass catcher last year in Philadelphia. He ranked 47th in running back yards per route run and was graded by Pro Football Focus as the NFL’s 49th best pass-catching RB.
  • JAX Quarterback #16
The Jaguars will play the Patriots in London on October 20.
Jacksonville once again gets two London games, this time against a new-look Patriots team presumably led by third overall pick Drake Maye and the Bears and their new franchise QB Caleb Williams. The Jags, with a strong contingent of fans in the United Kingdom, are 6-5 all time in London games. The other London game in 2024 will be the Jets against the Vikings on October 6. It will mark Aaron Rodgers’ second London game.
  • FA Wide Receiver #84
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports free agent WR Martavis Bryant is scheduled to work out for the Commanders Wednesday.
Bryant was last on the Cowboys’ practice squad for the 2023 season. The 32-year-old last played an NFL snap in 2018 for the Raiders, spending four seasons with the Steelers prior to that. He bounced around the XFL and fan-controlled football over the last few years and is now trying out for the Commanders to attempt a return to the NFL.
  • ATL Quarterback #18
WSB’s Zach Klein reports the Falcons are expected to play Week 1 at home against the Steelers.
The Steelers’ current offensive coordinator is the Falcons’ former head coach, Arthur Smith. He will get a chance to debut Pittsburgh’s new offense with Russell Wilson or Justin Fields at the helm against his former team. Meanwhile, Kirk Cousins will likely make his Falcons debut in this game, after signing a four-year, $180 million deal with the team. Though Atlanta took Michael Penix Jr. in the draft, Cousins is still expected to be the starter for this season. His return off an Achilles injury, along with Arthur Smith’s new offense, will be the storylines for this game.
  • WAS Defensive Tackle
Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz reports Commanders rookie DT Johnny Newton had successful surgery on his foot.
Newton needed surgery for a Jones fracture after needing surgery on his opposite foot earlier this year. Once projected as a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Newton fell to the No. 36 pick with teams exercising some concerns on his feet. He was scooped up by Washington, who hope to add him to a healthy defensive line. Schultz reports the Commanders are optimistic that Newton will make a full recovery before the regular season.
  • DET Running Back #26
Pro Football Talk reports Lions GM Brad Holmes expects Jahmyr Gibbs will see more of a workload in 2024.
While you shouldn’t expect David Montgomery to completely fade away, Gibbs should get a larger share of the touches in 2024. “I definitely would expect him to see more of a load, but David Montgomery will still be here too,” Holmes said. Despite being out-touched by Montgomery, Gibbs still finished as RB10 in total fantasy points. More touches for Gibbs means he’s a realistic threat to be a top five running back in fantasy football this season.
