Newton adds “even if it means releasing Dalton and leaving $3.83 million in dead cap money.” Things really crashed down hard from the Andy Dalton Combine “getting calls” experience. Dalton, who turns 39 in October, likely proved that he just wasn’t a good enough backup last year in his start against the Bills to keep paying a premium on. It wouldn’t be surprising if the Panthers cut him.
  • CAR Wide Receiver #18
Carolina also tendered fellow ERFA Brycen Tremayne. Coker missed time early in the season and struggled to find his footing over the first few months of the season. He picked up momentum down the stretch and ended the season on a high note with a career-high 134 yards and a touchdown on nine catches in the Wild Card Round. Head coach Dave Canales gave him a vote of confidence after the season by calling him the team’s No. 2 receiver. While Carolina’s run-first approach makes Coker a middling fantasy option, keeping him around on a cheap contract as the clear WR2 was an easy call for the Panthers.
  • CAR Running Back #24
It’s part of the reason why the Panthers are willing to let Rico Dowdle leave in free agency. With Chuba Hubbard as the main back, Brooks would likely not be a major part of the offense even if he got to camp healthy after losing most of his NFL career to date to ACL tears. Still, he’s going to be just 23 this offseason, it’s hard to completely give up hope on him. He’ll battle Trevor Etienne for the main backup role if the Panthers don’t bring in anyone else.
  • CAR Defensive Tackle #94
As Person points out, this was expected. Robinson is considered to be a trade/cut candidate, which would free up $10.5 million for the Panthers. The veteran lineman who will be 31 next season continues to play at a high level. Robinson totaled 65 tackles, three TFLs, and 2.5 sacks last season, and had 80 tackles, eight TFLs, and 5.5 sacks in 2024. With just one year left on his current deal, Robinson could likely be acquired for a late Day 3 pick, but given the possibility of a release, teams may just wait until he hits the open market before attempting to acquire him.
  • CAR Quarterback #14
This comes a day after ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the Panthers had been receiving calls about Dalton for a potential trade. Morgan said he “would talk to Andy” about any requests for a trade that may come through, but it’s hard to imagine the 38-year-old signal-caller being in high demand with free agency and the draft still to go. Dalton has one more year remaining on his current deal with the Panthers, and could make for a nice bridge for a team bringing in a younger quarterback, but wouldn’t be viewed as anything more than a one-year option.
  • CAR Quarterback #9
Canales has already turned over play-calling duties to offensive coordinator Brad Idzik. Now, he hopes Young will also have more opportunities in 2026 to make adjustments at the line of scrimmage and take advantage of mismatches he sees. Canales said he loves “the strides (Young has) taken in terms of the operation” but wants him to take more “ownership” next season. Young had his best season as a pro in 2025, throwing for 3,011-23-11 while completing 63.6 percent of his passes. Young made clear strides in his second season under Canales, but may need to show more growth this season if he hopes to earn a long-term extension.
  • CAR Quarterback #14
Dalton has one year left on his current deal in Carolina. The team signed him as Bryce Young’s backup in 2023. He saw significant playing time in 2024 and the team kept him around as a break glass incase of emergency option to replace Young. Dalton was only needed for one start last year. He threw for 175 scoreless yards and an interception while taking seven sacks. The Panthers got trounced by the Bills with a final score of 9-40. The fact that there are still teams interested in Dalton, even as a backup, speaks to the stagnant state of quarterback play across the league. The Panthers wouldn’t fetch more than a late-round pick for Dalton.
  • FA Linebacker #2
The possibility of signing Chubb was brought up at Morgan’s press conference at the NFL Scouting Combine; Morgan said the 29-year-old is “still playing at a really good level” and indicated the Panthers are exploring the idea of signing him. Chubb tallied 8.5 sacks for the Dolphins last season after missing 2024 with a torn ACL. Miami released Chubb after the playoffs, making him eligible to sign at any point.
  • CAR Head Coach
We’re interested in seeing if Idzik will bring more of a deep-shot focused approach to the table, it’s an area where the Panthers have sporadically been good with Bryce Young, but one they seemingly can’t access every game. Otherwise we’d generally call moving to an unknown playcaller a theoretical downgrade for the Panthers, but it’s hard to get too caught up in it given Canales wasn’t exactly blowing anyone away in the coach tape community.
  • FA Center #75
Bozeman started his career as a sixth-round pick with the Ravens back in 2018 and also spent time with the Panthers and Chargers. The eight-year vet started 110 of the 129 games he appeared in during his career, and started all 156 games at center for the Chargers last season.
