It was an interesting Saturday in DFS as my play of the day was Nick Schmaltz who had two goals and five assists, the most points in a game since 2012 when Sam Gagner had an eight-point night for the Oilers.
Carl Hagelin is out indefinitely after he was struck in the eye Tuesday and needed surgery.
There were eight games in the NHL on Sunday.
LOS ANGELES 3 BUFFALO 0
Cal Petersen turned aside all 19 Buffalo shots for his second shutout of the season as the Los Angeles Kings won their seventh game in the last 10, 3-0 over the Sabres.
The Kings are in second place in Pacific, three points better than Vegas while the Sabres who are 3-7-0 in the last 10 and are currently sitting in sixth in the Atlantic, but are in danger of finishing last once again.
The game was a lot closer than the final score indicates as the Kings scored a pair of empty net goals.
Andreas Athanasiou opened the scoring in the second period with his sixth of the season and then scored the insurance goal with 59 seconds left. Dustin Brown scored his eighth of the season with seven seconds left as he scored for the second straight game after going 19 straight games with nary a goal.
Dustin Tokarski made 29 saves in taking the loss. He is 5-9-4 with a 3.26 GAA and a .902 save percentage.
Alex Tuch was injured just past the midway mark of the third when he went head-first into the goalpost. There was no head injury according to coach Don Granato but Tuch should still be day-to-day.
Viktor Arvidsson suffered a lower-body injury with less than five minutes left and did not return. He is also day-to-day.
NEW JERSEY 3 ST. LOUIS 2 (Overtime)
Dougie Hamilton scored the overtime winner as the New Jersey Devils defeated the St. Louis Blues 3-2.
It was the defenseman’s first game-winner for the Devils who signed him in the off-season to a seven-year/$63 million deal.
The Devils got off to a 1-0 lead as Ty Smith scored his second goal of the season on a beautiful pass from Jesper Bratt. Smith last scored on Nov. 9.
New Jersey made it 2-0 when Dawson Mercer knocked in his 14th of the season. The goal gave him five goals and five assists in his last 10 games.
The Blues entered the third, down 2-0 but scored twice early to even the score as Torey Krug with his seventh and Jordan Kyrou with his 22nd, scored for St. Louis.

DALLAS 6 MINNESOTA 3
Jason Robertson had the hat trick to lead the Dallas Stars to a 6-3 win over Minnesota. The win moves Dallas ahead of Nashville and into a tie for third place with the Wild, although the Wild do have a game in hand.
Robertson has shown no signs of slowing down from his outstanding rookie season when he finished second in Calder voting, in fact, he has been even better. The sophomore has 29 goals and 54 points in 47 games after picking up 45 points in 51 games as a rookie. It was back-to-back games with a hat trick for Robertson who did so on Friday against Winnipeg.
It was also a big day for Riley Tufte, the Stars first-round pick in 2016, who scored his first NHL goal in his nine-game career.
Joe Pavelski scored on the power play and added an assist for Dallas, giving him 22 goals and 59 points as he, at the age of 37, is headed for a career-best season in points.
Jamie Benn potted his 14th of the season to finish the scoring for Dallas.
Kirill Kaprizov, who won the Calder last season, scored twice for Minnesota while Nico Sturm also scored for the Wild.

Victor Hedman with his second of the contest, Corey Perry and Mikhail Sergachev scored to make a 3-2 game into a 6-2 contest as Chicago managed one more goal to make the final 6-3.
The Blackhawks scored the only goal of the first period as Dylan Strome picked up his 12th of the season. Strome has a three-game points streak in which he has three goals and two assists, giving him 26 points in 44 games.
The Bolts tied it up in the second on Taylor Raddysh’s fifth of the season but Patrick Kane with his 18th and sixth goal in his last six games gave Chicago a 2-1 lead.
But Hedman with his first of the game and Cal Foote with his first of the season and only his second career goal, gave Tampa Bay a 3-2 lead heading into the third.
After the magical 32 seconds, Alex DeBrincat completed the scoring with his 32nd of the season.
Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 24 shots and became the first goalie to 30 wins as he is 30-9-4 this season with a 2.33 GAA and a .920 save percentage.
It was not a great night for Marc-Andre Fleury as he gave up six goals on 32 shots. Fleury is 17-20-4 with a 2.91 GAA and a .908 save percentage.
Erik Cernak had eight hits.
Sergachev had a pair of assists as well as his goal.
MacKenzie Entwistle and Brandon Hagel were each a minus-four for Chicago.
NEW YORK RANGERS 4 WINNIPEG 1
It was the Igor Shesterkin show once again for the Rangers as the netminder kicked out 45 shots in a 4-1 win in Winnipeg.
Shesterkin gave up only one goal for the fifth time in his last six starts and is 28-6-3 with a 1.93 GAA and a .942 save percentage as he is the current favorite for the Vezina Trophy and a co-favorite for the Hart. He has been sensational this season.
Chris Kreider was the big force up front for the Rangers as he scored a pair of goals to give him 38 this season, one behind Auston Matthews and tied for second place with Leon Draisaitl. It has been a career year for Kreider and another reason for the Rangers success this season.
Barclay Goodrow opened the scoring for the Rangers in the first with his 12th and Mika Zibanejad completed it in the third with his 22nd of the season.
Nikolaj Ehlers scored his 14th of the season for Winnipeg’s lone goal. It was on the power play with Neal Pionk and Andrew Copp drawing the assists. It was only Ehlers second game back after playing only once in the last two months due to a knee injury.

Philipp Grubauer made 30 saves but still took the loss as he is 12-24-5 with a 3.17 GAA and a .888 save percentage.
VEGAS 2 OTTAWA 1
Jack Eichel was the hero in Vegas as he scored the winner with only 5.2 seconds remaining in the third period as the Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Ottawa Senators 2-1.
Eichel scored his third of the season as he missed the first four-plus months of the season awaiting surgery and then finally undergoing disk replacement surgery in his neck. A trade to Vegas from Buffalo occurred before the surgery, otherwise Eichel would likely still be waiting.
Jonathan Marchessault opened the scoring for Vegas after a scoreless first period as he potted his 24th of the season.
Brady Tkachuk on the power play, scored his 18th of the season to even the score at 1 before the midway point of the second. It was his first goal in five games.

It was Rakell’s 16th goal of the season and it moved the Ducks one point past the Vancouver Canucks for fifth in the Pacific and they are three points in arrears of the Nashville Predators for the second wild card in the West.
The Sharks got off to a 1-0 lead as Logan Couture scored his 18th of the season for the lone goal of the first period.
Adam Henrique with his 11th, evened the score at 1 just 1:41 into the second but Marc-Edouard Vlasic gave the Sharks a 2-1 lead 76 seconds later with his first of the season.
Sonny Milano with his 12th of the season scored with 21 seconds left in the second to tie the game at 2 and set up Rakell’s heroics after a scoreless third.
Anthony Stolarz picked up the start in place of the injured John Gibson and made 20 saves for the win. He is 9-6-1 this season with a 2.70 GAA and a .917 save percentage.
