Colt Nichols will move from the Twisted Tea Suzuki team to Team ROKiT Partzilla PRMX Yamaha for the 2027 season.
Nichols finished 15th in the Monster Energy Supercross 450 division and was 16th in the SuperMotocross World Championship playoffs.
The highlight of his career came in 2021 when he won the 250 SX East divisional championship, but that was a pyrrhic victory. Having raced on the Yamaha Star Racing team since 2016, he was forced to move up to the 450 division per Supercross rules and there was no room for him in Yamaha’s premiere team.
“I’ve been talking to the team and working with Julien [Perrier] for several months and I’m happy we have been able to put a deal together that gets me back on a Yamaha where I’ve had a lot of success,” Nichols said. “I’m happy to be back on the Yamaha and this new YZ450 feels like home already.”
From 2023 through 2026, Nichols competed for four organizations, often switching teams mid-season: Team Honda (2023 Supercross), Rick Ware Racing (2023 Motocross and SuperMotocross), the Factory Beta team (2024 Supercross), and the Twisted Tea Suzuki team (2024-2026). The 2023 Honda deal came about when the team and Ken Roczen parted ways.
Now back on a Yamaha, he hopes to rekindle the magic from his 250 days.
“We are excited to have a rider of Colt’s caliber and we think he will fit right in with the team,” said team owner Julien Perrier.
Nichols will continue top run his iconic No. 45, keeping his nickname of Colt 45 alive.
