The SuperMotocross League and AUSX are partnering to create an Australian-based series named SMX Next Australia. This is the first regional extension of the official SMX Next development program that feeds into the Monster Energy SMX World Championship currently through companion races with the Supercross and Pro Motocross series.
The region provided both 2026 champions of Pro Motocross with Australian Hunter Lawrence victorious in 450s and the New Zealander, Cole Davies, as the 250 champion.
More than eighty athletes from twenty plus countries have competed in the SMX World Championship since 2023. German-born, Ken Roczen, won the 450 Supercross titles with Davies doubling down as the 250 East champion.
The current iteration of the developmental series, SMX Next was created in 2024, combining the SMX Next Supercross program, Moto Combines from Pro Motocross and the SMX World All-Stars into one unified program.
“Australia and New Zealand have long produced some of the greatest talent in the world in the likes of Ben Townley, Chad Reed and now the Lawrence brothers and Cole Davies,” said Mike Muye, Senior Director of Supercross, SMX League. “SMX Next Australia creates a premier pathway for riders who are working to advance in the sport and pursue elite level goals. The focus is on identifying, encouraging, and supporting the next generation of SMX talent.”
The AUSX Supercross Championship begins on Saturday, October 3 in Townsville, Queensland with additional stops in Auckland, New Zealand on October 31, Geelong, Victoria on November 7, Perth, Western Australia on November 14, and Newcastle, New South Wales on November 28.
Among the riders who anticipate competing in the 2026 series is the three-time WMX champion, Lachlan Turner, who will test her skills against the men.
