Aleksander Aamodt Kilde tears Achilles in ski training crash

Norwegian Alpine skier Aleksander Aamodt Kilde tore an Achilles in a training crash in Chile on Wednesday.

Kilde, a two-time Olympic medalist, was traveling home to Innsbruck, Austria, on Thursday for further medical exams, the Norwegian Ski Association said.

Kilde, 34, missed the Milan Cortina Games as he has spent the past two years working his way back after sustaining a severe right leg laceration and torn left shoulder ligaments in a January 2024 downhill race crash.

He did return to World Cup racing last fall with a best finish of 11th in seven starts from November to February.

In 2022, Kilde won Olympic silver in the combined and bronze in the super-G. He also won the World Cup overall title in 2020.

This World Cup season starts with women’s and men’s giant slaloms in Sölden, Austria, on Oct. 24-25.

Mikaela Shiffrin is chasing curiosity in her 16th season on the World Cup.
