Bubba Watson is the highest-ranked male on the U.S. Olympic golf team, which was officially announced Monday. He’s No. 6 in the world and a two-time major winner.
He’s also one of the biggest characters on Team USA.
His self-taught, left-handed swing stands out on its own, but his big drives are all the more eye-catching considering he uses a driver with a hot pink shaft (to promote breast cancer awareness).
He and his fellow Olympic teammate, Rickie Fowler, are part of a mock boy band, the Golf Boys.
But Watson’s eccentric side has inspired Oakley to create some wacky/cool modes of transportation for him. There’s the bulletproof truck, which Watson actually uses regularly. And the hovercraft, an incredible version of a golf cart.
Now, there’s the jetpack, Oakley’s newest version of a high-tech golf cart. It literally flies around the golf course. Watch it in action here.
According to Mashable, the BW-AIR is an experimental aircraft built by Martin Aircraft. It can fly up to 3,000 feet in the air at 46 mph. In reality, the actual target market for a jetpack is first responders at fire, police and rescue departments.
The jetpack obviously won’t be going to Rio, because even Watson hasn’t been certified to fly it. But he’s on the waiting list for training, something he can pursue after going for the first Olympic gold medal in golf since 1904.
