Americans Jayden DeLeon and Quincy Wilson went one-two in the 400m at the World U20 Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon on Friday night.
DeLeon won in a championship record and personal best 44.47 seconds, becoming the first American man to win the 400m at U20 Worlds since Marcus Boyd in 2008.
Wilson was just behind in 44.62. Both men overtook Leendert Koekemoer of South Africa in the last 50 meters.
DeLeon and Wilson, both from Maryland, also went one-two in that order at Hayward at the USA Track and Field U20 Championships in June.
In 2024, Wilson became the youngest male Olympic track and field medalist with 4x400m relay gold at age 16.
Ataja Stephane-Vazquez added silver in the women’s 400m for the U.S.
The World U20 Championships continue Saturday, live on Peacock at 12:40 p.m. ET (day session) and 8:40 p.m. (night session). Finals include the men’s and women’s 200m, featuring Americans Tate Taylor and Mia Maxwell, who each won the 100m on Thursday.
