Karen Chen announced she will not compete at the 2019 U.S. Figure Skating Championships later this month in Detroit. The 2017 national champion posted on Twitter on Friday, noting that she is putting her health first.
The 2018 Olympian missed the Grand Prix season with a foot injury. She skipped March’s world championships and pulled out of lower-level events earlier in the fall. She most recently competed in PyeongChang, where she finished 11th.
preparing for next season is ultimately the best decision I can make to reach my goals. I’ll miss being in Detroit, but I’m excited to cheer my teammates on! 💞 pic.twitter.com/PrO90rh7CK
