Russia stripped of another Olympic track and field title

Russian Tatyana Lysenko was stripped of her 2012 Olympic hammer throw title after failing a retest of a doping sample from the London Games, the International Olympic Committee announced Tuesday.

Lysenko, previously suspended two years for a 2007 failed drug test, had the banned steroid turinabol in a 2012 doping sample that was retested.

The 33-year-old is the latest Russian to lose an Olympic track and field medal following recent retests of 2008 and 2012 doping samples.

Medals have not been officially redistributed in the women’s hammer, but if they are, Poland world-record holder Anita Wlodarczyk could upgrade her 2012 Olympic and 2013 World Championships silver medals behind Lysenko to golds.

Wlodarczyk also won the 2015 World and 2016 Olympic titles.
