U.S. women’s hockey roster named for World Championship, with Hilary Knight for a 16th time

Hilary Knight’s Olympic career may be done, but the most prolific player in U.S. hockey history is still going strong.

Knight was named to her 16th world championship team as the American roster was announced for the tournament in Denmark that runs from Nov. 6-16.

Jenni Hiirikoski of Finland holds the record of 16 worlds appearances and could make her 17th; Finland hasn’t named its roster.

Knight, 37, announced last year that the Milan Cortina Games would be her fifth and final Olympics, but left the door open to continue playing for the national team a little bit longer.

She then captained the U.S. to gold in Milan, beating rival Canada in the final. Knight finished her Olympic career with an American hockey record five medals — two golds and three silvers.

Knight is joined on the roster for these worlds by defender Megan Keller, who scored the golden goal in overtime in the Olympic final.

Plus fellow standout defenders Caroline Harvey (2026 Olympic MVP), Laila Edwards (2024 World MVP), Lee Stecklein (two-time Olympic gold medalist) and Cayla Barnes (two-time Olympic gold medalist), plus Aerin Frankel, the U.S.’ No. 1 goalie at the Olympics.

The U.S. is the defending world champion and trying to repeat for the first time since 2019.

Plenty of Canadian veterans will not be at the IIHF Women’s World Championship in November.
