Usain Bolt might race both the 100m and the 200m at the 2017 World Championships, his final major meet, after all.
Bolt has said he would only race the 100m at the 2017 Worlds in London before retiring but said Tuesday that his coach, Glen Mills, wants him to race both the 100m and 200m in London, according to Reuters.
"[Mills] still wants me to do the double, but I’ve told him I would really like to just do the 100m, so at the start of the season we’ll decide exactly what, but that’s what’s on my mind,” Bolt said on Jamaican TV, according to the report. “No [world records], it’s all beyond me now, right now it is just for me to go out there and leave with a big bang as much as possible.
“I just want to go to the world championships, do my best as always and stay on a certain level and that’s the plan.”
If Bolt races the 200m at worlds, he could face South African Olympic 400m champion Wayde van Niekerk, who is reportedly open to a 200m-400m double next year.
Bolt and his coach have differed before. In January, Bolt said his coach suggested he could compete at one more Olympics in 2020, but Bolt squashed that idea.
