Stephen Eustaquio’s too-cool stoppage-time settle and finish sent Canada into the 2026 World Cup’s Round of 16 on Sunday in Canada as the traveling co-hosts got past South Africa.
Eustaquio’s first and second touches were sensational as he helped Canada avoid extra time to set up a match-up with either the Netherlands or Morocco in Houston on July 4.

South Africa crashed the party with a win in their final group game, rebounding from a loss to co-hosts Mexico at Estadio Azteca to draw Czechia and grab a second-half winner against South Korea.
And they held nearly 60 percent of the ball but couldn’t generate danger across their seven shots, producing just 0.13 xG over 90 minutes.

Canada boss Jesse Marsch hailed his team as “Canadian heroes” in a memorable post-match speech caught on cameras. It’s impossible to disagree as they rallied from the emotional toll of failing to win their group and moving outside of Canada for the knockout rounds.
Star back Alphonso Davies came off the bench late and that will give the CONCACAF side even more hope despite a daunting Round of 16 opponent.
South Africa vs Canada final score: 0-1
Stephen Eustaquio 90+2'
Eustaquio’s classy goal is a fitting match-winner, and Canada is onto the Round of 16 and a meeting with either Netherlands or Morocco on July 4 in Houston.
It’s the Porto midfielder putting Canada in front with a too-cool settle and finish of a looped clearance in the second of five minutes’ added time!

The Canadian star was cleared to be in the 18 and now he’ll be on for the final 30 plus presumably all of extra time.
If Bafana Bafana make it out of this, this sequence for goalkeeper Ronwen Williams will live long in the memory.
