Tottenham kept up it’s impressive form today rolling past Newcastle 4-0 in the League Cup quarter-finals. Nabil Bentaleb opened the scoring in the 18th minute, Nacer Chadli doubled the lead just after half time and Harry Kane made it 3-0 in the 63rd minute before Roberto Soldado made it an even four with just over twenty minutes to play.

With 4,000 traveling fans and looking to shed their 39-year absence from the League Cup semi-finals, Newcastle started brightly before Newcastle third-choice goalkeeper Jak Alnwick mishandled Christian Eriksen’s corner and Bentaleb poked home.

Spurs went into half-time up 1-0 but it could’ve been more after Kane put a 36th minute effort just wide of the post and was denied a penalty four minutes later. But just 36 seconds after the second half kicked off, Spurs had their second as Chadli picked up possession outside the area and hit a low shot into the bottom corner that left Alnwick no chance.

In the 63rd minute, Kane got finally got his due, picking up Andros Townsend’s pass and swerving a shot past the hapless Alnwick for his 13th goal of the season. In the 69th minute Kane gave way to Soldado and immediately the Spaniard was on the board, following up Alnwick’s parry of Eriksen’s 25-yard shot to make it 4-0.

With the victory, Tottenham join Chelsea, Sheffield United and Liverpool in the League Cup semi-finals.
