World Cups almost always spur movement in the transfer window, and at least three members of the United States men’s national team have new clubs for the fall.
Giovanni Reyna has completed a move from Borussia Monchengladbach to Ligue 1 side Strasbourg for a reported $4.62 million, while a pair of Columbus-connected players have made moves to Middlesbrough.

Former Columbus Crew player Sebastian Berhalter has made a reported $2 million trip from MLS to the Championship, and going with him is forward-thinking fullback Max Arfsten. Fellow USMNT and former Crew midfielder Aidan Morris is also on the books at Middlesbrough.
Both sons of former USMNT players, Reyna and Berhalter may be just the tip of the transfer iceberg for Maurico Pochettino’s national team (though a number of stars had switched clubs in recent memory, which may limit the tumult).
The Athletic’s Tom Bogert and Matt Woosnam say that Crystal Palace may soon have $15 million Real Salt Lake starlet Xavier Gozo on the books.
Here are some players who could still move before the end of the summer transfer window.
- Folarin Balogun caught the eye of many for his on-field exploits at the World Cup (and his red card did plenty of talking off-the-field). A rumor earlier this month said Spurs have had conversations about the ex-Arsenal striker.
- There were pre-World Cup rumors of Bayern Munich eyeing PSV Eindhoven’s Sergino Dest.
- A late July report says Fulham’s Antonee Robinson is on the radar of Manchester United.
- Gladbach fullback Joe Scally is in the last year of his deal and could reportedly be a victim of his club’s desire to trim wages.
- Newcastle United has been mentioned as a landing spot for Tyler Adams after big sales of Sandro Tonali and (unofficially for now) Bruno Guimaraes.
- Ricardo Pepi was linked with a move to Fulham and even had a medical last winter, but so far this summer he remains a PSV player.
Christian Pulisic reportedly drew record interest from NYCFC earlier this summer but is set to stay with AC Milan.
Balogun and Adams are both in the prime of their careers but do not need to move from their homes, both of which will have European football this summer.
