With Alex Lynn out of Rolex 24 for illness, Wayne Taylor Racing using three drivers on No. 40 Cadillac

Wayne Taylor Racing will be racing a man down in the Rolex 24 at Daytona with a virus sidelining Alex Lynn from the No. 40 Cadillac V-Series.R.

The team announced Lynn would miss the race Friday after the first two practice sessions of the Roar before the Rolex 24 were completed at Daytona International Speedway. The test session will continue the next two days on the 12-turn, 3.56-mile road course.

Without Lynn, Wayne Taylor Racing will split the driving duties between Jordan Taylor, Louis Deletraz and Kamui Kobayashi. All three took turns behind the wheel during a two-hour practice Friday afternoon (which Lynn missed along with the earlier session).

Lynn, the team’s extra driver for the Michelin Endurance Cup schedule, is expected to rejoin full-time drivers Taylor and Deletraz at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring in mid-March. Kobayashi has returned to WTR for the first time in five years after winning the Rolex 24s with the team as a one-off driver for Daytona in 2019 and ’20.

“Cadillac Racing and Wayne Taylor Racing wish Alex a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back,” the team said in a release.

Of the 12 teams in the Grand Touring Prototype category, nine (including WTR’s No. 10 Cadillac) are rotating between four drivers to complete the 24-hour race Jan. 25-26.

The No. 40 will become the third GTP entry to opt for using three drivers in this year’s Rolex 24. Porsche Penske Motorsport also will use a trio for each of its two cars.
