This week the PGA Tour heads down to sunny Florida to kick off the Florida swing. The first stop is at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens for the Honda Classic. The Jack Nicklaus designed PGA National is most known for one of the toughest three hole stretches in golf, famously named, “The Bear Trap” after Nicklaus whose nicknamed the Golden Bear.

Last year, the Honda Classic was won by Matt Jones, who stormed to an early lead after a 9-under-par-61 opening round. Jones went off as a huge underdog with odds as high as +10000. This year oddsmakers at PointsBet Sportsbook have Jones listed at +4000. Jones has seen some success to start the season with three Top-25s and one top-10. However, I’m not sure if I am willing to back last year’s champion.

This year’s field features a few European players who are making their PGA Tour season debut this week. A few such as Tommy Fleetwood (+1800), Shane Lowry (+2200), and former Masters Champion Danny Willett (+15000).

The tournament favorite is Sungjae Im who is currently listed at +1200. Im might be the most consistent golfer in the field, but it’s hard to justify grabbing him at that short of a price. At first glance I’d be more interested in Patrick Reed at +5000 or Matt Wolff at +4000 solely based off price alone. Reed at such high odds with a weaker field feels almost like an auto bet.
