Vaughn Dalzell breaks down which squad he’s backing when the Colorado Rockies and the Cincinnati Reds open their series.
Reds (-130) at Rockies (+110): O/U 11.0
The Rockies open the series in Colorado agains Cincinnati with a major advantage of travel and elevation.
Colorado is coming off a three-game home stand against the Phillies, while Cincinnati is coming off a road series at Miami, which they won the first two before losing the third and final game of the series. Now, Cincinnati goes from sea level in Florida to over 5,000 feet elevation the very next day at Colorado.
That will benefit the Rockies who have been playing good baseball lately. Colorado is 9-4 in the past 13 games and 5-2 at home during that span. The Reds are 6-13 on the road this season and 26th in OPS (.650) with the fewest runs scored (68) over 19 games (3.5 runs per game).
Hunter Greene will pitch for the Reds. In Greene’s only career start at Colorado, he was lit up for six hits and four earned runs over 4.1 innings and 95 pitches. Greene struck out six and walked four, in addition to two homers permitted.
The Rockies are hitting .284 at home (3rd) with the 25th-fewest strikeouts (25th) and 92 runs scored over 19 games (4.8 runs per game). I like the Rockies offense at home in this matchup and the fact the Reds traveled across the country for a road game in higher elevation.
I grabbed the Rockies ML at +110 odds and the run line of +1.5 at -140 odds.
Pick: Rockies ML (1u), Rockies +1.5 (Risk 1u)
