Giants signed TE Brandon Myers, formerly of the Raiders, to a one-year contract.
After losing Martellus Bennett to the Bears, Myers will likely open 2013 as the Giants’ new starter, ahead of raw 2012 fourth-rounder Adrien Robinson. It’s a solid, low-risk signing by the G-Men. Myers broke out last season as an efficient underneath option for Carson Palmer, securing career bests in catches (79), yards (806), and touchdowns (4). His 78-percent catch rate led the NFL among tight ends with at least 50 targets. Myers is a poor blocker, but he could push for 6-8 TD catches as a reliable red-zone presence for Eli Manning.

The Raiders anticipate Zach Miller getting more pass-catching opportunities with rookie Brandon Myers taking over the blocking tight end role.
Myers is viewed as a “block-and-release player” in two-tight end sets. Miller could line up in the slot more and be a matchup weapon versus safeties and linebackers. He’s bound to improve on his 2008 numbers (56/778/1).
  • FA Tight End #80
Raiders TE Kevin Boss did not finish Sunday’s game due to a hip pointer.
Backup Brandon Myers finished with three catches for 33 yards on Sunday, and if Boss is going to miss time then Myers will threaten to have low-end TE2 value.
  • FA Tight End #80
Kevin Boss (knee) has been ruled out for Monday’s game against the Broncos.
It’s a blow to the Raiders offense, but one fantasy owners should have seen coming. The former Giant could eventually turn into a solid TE in Hue Jackson’s tight end friendly offense, but the position is so deep that Boss shouldn’t even be rostered at this point. Brandon Myers is next in line to start on the depth chart.
  • FA Tight End #82
Brandon Myers (concussion) practiced fully Friday and is listed as probable for Week 11 against the Saints.
Myers has a quick-healing brain. He’s been concussed four times in four NFL seasons and twice this year, but Myers gained quick medical clearance and will start against New Orleans. He’s a strong back-end TE1 play in Week 11.
  • FA Tight End #82
Brandon Myers (concussion, shoulder) was upgraded to full participation in Thursday’s practice.
Myers made quick work of the concussion protocol despite sustaining one in September as well. He’s on track to start versus the Saints’ league-worst defense. Rotoworld ranks Myers 12th among tight end options for Week 11.
  • FA Tight End #82
Brandon Myers has passed all league-mandated concussion tests and has been cleared to play in Sunday’s game against the Saints.
Considering Myers has sustained two concussions in the last seven weeks, it’s a surprise he was cleared so quickly. It’s a reminder of the unpredictable nature of the injury. Myers is expected to practice at full speed the rest of the week and start Sunday. He’ll be a TE1 against a Saints defense that got ripped by Tony Gonzalez for a 11/122/2 line last week.
  • FA Tight End #82
Raiders TE Brandon Myers suffered a concussion in Sunday’s Week 10 loss to the Ravens.
Myers also suffered a concussion in Week 3. This would be his fourth known concussion after suffering ones in 2010 and 2009, as well. In that case, we suspect Myers may be shut down for at least a game or two. Myers has 44 receptions for 499 yards and two touchdowns through nine games. His backup is David Ausberry. The Raiders will face off with the Saints in Week 11.
  • FA Tight End #82
Brandon Myers caught five balls for 57 yards in the Raiders’ Week 10.
He was targeted seven times. Despite his two-touchdown Week 11 game, Myers does not project as a high-scoring or high-yardage fantasy option at tight end. While Myers is involved enough in Oakland’s weekly passing offense to contribute and perhaps keep fantasy owners afloat, he’s surely not a difference maker.
  • FA Tight End #82
Brandon Myers caught five balls for 37 yards in the Raiders’ Week 12 loss to Cincinnati.
He was targeted six times. Myers continues to be an efficient member of Oakland’s passing game, but his lack of playmaking ability has been evident and puts a cap on his fantasy ceiling, even if he’d found pay dirt three times in the Raiders’ previous three games entering this one. Myers will be a low-end TE1 when the Raiders square off with the Browns in Week 13.
