At this point there are three guarantees in life: death, taxes and Tubby Smith’s name being mentioned as part of a coaching search during the off-season.
According to Jeff Goodman of CBSSports.com LSU has met with the Minnesota head coach in regards to their current opening.
North Texas head coach Johnny Jones, who was a player and assistant at LSU, has interviewed for the position and depending on the source there have also been conversations between the school and Steve Prohm, Tony Bennett and Shaka Smart.
Minnesota is Smith’s fourth stop, having also been a head coach at Tulsa, Georgia and Kentucky.
Smith led Kentucky to a national title in his first season but postseason struggles towards the end of his tenure in Lexington led to him taking over at Minnesota.
Overall Smith has a record of 490-213 as a head coach, going 103-68 in five seasons at Minnesota. The Golden Gophers went 23-15 in 2011-12, losing to Stanford in the Postseason NIT title game.
