Rutgers has reportedly set a 4:30 p.m. press conference for Tuesday to likely announce Eddie Jordan as their next men’s basketball coach.

The Rutgers Board of Directors is set to meet Tuesday to approve a contract that would allow Jordan to be hired for the position.

Jordan, 58, a former Rutgers player who currently is an assistant with the Los Angeles Lakers under Mike D’antoni, is replacing former coach Mike Rice, who was fired along with Athletic Director Tim Pernetti, after tapes surfaced of Rice verbally, mentally and physically berating his players during practice.

Jordan was the point guard for the Scarlet Knights when the team made its only Final Four in 1976. He left the school as the program’s all-time leader in assists and steals. He interviewed for the job in 2010, when Rice was chosen over him.

If hired, the job would be Jordan’s first as a college head coach. He served as coach in the NBA with Sacramento, Washington and Philadelphia.
