Former SMU guard Brian Bernardi will visit Hofstra over the July 4, according to the New York Post’s Zach Braziller.

Bernardi, who will have three seasons of eligibility remaining when he settles on a school and redshirts, is also set to visit Dayton. George Washington, which was a possible destination, is no longer in the running.

The New York City native averaged 3.5 points and one rebound per game last season before joining three other players in transferring after Larry Brown’s first season in Dallas.

Hofstra recruited Brian Bernardi heavily first time around though that was a different staff.

Hofstra is experiencing a rebirth of sorts with new coach Joe Mihalich coming over from Niagara to replace Mo Cassara. He also brought two of his top players from the Purple Eagles in Juan’ya Green and Ameen Tanksley. Dayton and coach Archie Miller have to replace two of their top three scorers in Kevin Dillard and Josh Benson.

The 6-2, 180-pound Bernardi shot 23-of-55 from three-point range (41.8 percent) last season.
