It was a relatively quiet day for Big East football (surprise?), but here are some news and notes from around the league:
- Cincinnati, like a few Big Ten teams, had to adjust their spring game because of inclement weather and move it to a glorified indoor scrimmage. The Bearcats are one of the teams to watch in the Big East this year, but lose a ton of offensive production from Big East Player of the Year Isaiah Pead and quarterback Zach Collaros.
- Paul Chryst has established himself as one of the hot coaching commodities over the past few years at Wisconsin. Though the Badgers ran a pro-style offense, they could definitely score some points. That wasn’t the case for Pitt today as the Blue-Gold game ended in a 0-0 tie. Before you ask -- don’t worry, the scoreboard didn’t count anything and touchdowns were reportedly scored. Why on Earth Pitt would hold a spring game without a score is beyond me, but to each his own.
- With West Virginia gone to the Big 12, Louisville has to be considered the favorite to win the Big East this year. The Cardinals were thisclose to winning it last year with a young group and the key component to UL’s offense, quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, is back with a year of experience under his belt. By all accounts, Bridgewater looked like he took a major step in a positive direction in this year’s spring game. He looked more confident and made better decisions. The Cardinals also look better in the trenches as well.
- The Big East’s newest member, Temple, had a low-key day in a 17-10 win by the Cherry team of the White team. “We had a productive spring, but I don’t think today was as productive as some of the days we had in the spring,” coach Steve Addazio said. The second-year coach added that the Owls got off to a slow, sluggish start before minimizing mistakes in the second quarter.
