Colorado ended a Power Five conference-worst nine-game losing streak with a Week 2 win over UMass. Unfortunately for the Buffs, they sustained a loss even in a rare win.
Mike MacIntyre confirmed Tuesday that Jeromy Irwin will miss the remainder of the 2015 season due to injury. The offensive lineman tore an ACL in that Week 2 win over the Minutemen, with the injury initially occurring late in the first quarter.
Irwin left the game briefly but returned for a couple of more drives before ultimately leaving permanently late in the second quarter.
“It’s very unfortunate to lose Jeromy,” the Buffs head coach said. “He’s really kept improving. We’re definitely going to miss him.”
Irwin had started 13 games for the Buffs at left tackle over the last two seasons -- 11 in 2014, the first two in 2015. Sophomore Sam Kronshage will replace Irwin and make his first career start this weekend against in-state rival Colorado State.
As this is Irwin’s second season-ending injury -- he broke his left foot during summer camp in 2013 and missed all of that season -- he will likely be eligible for a sixth season of eligibility. If he gets that medical waiver, he would then have two seasons of eligibility remaining beginning in 2016.
