Rumor mill connects Dayne Crist to Kansas

In the immediate reaction following Kansas’ decision to hire Florida offensive coordinator Charlie Weis, rumors began to swirl that Notre Dame quarterback Dayne Crist could transfer to the Jayhawks.

Crist, a Weis recruit, decided to transfer from the Irish after the end of the regular season, and the Chicago Tribune reported that Wisconsin could be a potential destination for the senior (Crist did not see any game time as a true freshman in 2008).

Now that Weis has taken over at Kansas, though, the Jayhawks could be an option. Pete Thamel tweets that Crist leaves for Lawrence tomorrow for a visit with KU. Crist’s mom later confirmed with the Kansas City Star that her son would indeed be visiting KU this weekend.

If Crist does transfer, he’ll have one year of eligibility to attend graduate school.

Crist was promptly benched in the first half of ND’s season-opening game against South Florida after one half in which he completed less than 50 percent of his passes and threw a pick. Crist attempted just 24 passes on the year for 164 yards and no touchdowns.
