Earlier this month, Nebraska defensive tackle Baker Steinkuhler was charged with suspicion of driving under the influence.
Just over a week later, head coach Bo Pelini has yet another drunk-driving issue to deal with.
According to the Lincoln Journal Star, Husker safety Rickey Thenarse was cited for driving under the influence following a quasi-traffic stop early Sunday morning. And by “quasi-traffic stop”, we mean dude’s vehicle was passed out in the middle of a street. Allegedly.Officers contacted Thenarse shortly after 2 a.m. on O Street between 14th Street and Centennial Mall when they found his maroon 1998 Oldsmobile 88 stopped in the middle of traffic, said Lincoln Police Sgt. Jason Stille.
His blood-alcohol content was measured at 0.11 percent, according to police reports. The legal limit is 0.08 percent.
In addition to the DUI charge, Thenarse was charged with a suspended license and impeding traffic.
As for potential punishment for Thenarse, a one-time 2010 starter who graduated Saturday, Steinkuhler was suspended for the Cornhuskers’ bowl game later this week. It’s unclear whether Thenarse will suffer the same fate.
