Deck McGuire, who pitched in the majors for the Reds, Blue Jays and Angels, announced his retirement on Friday.
Calling it a career at age 33. McGuire was Toronto’s first-round pick in the 2010 draft, going 11th overall. The upper minors were a struggle for him, and he didn’t reach the majors until 2018, going 1-3 with a 5.23 ERA in parts of two seasons. He later pitched in Korea and Japan before returning to the U.S. last season and posting a 6.32 ERA for the Reds’ Triple-A club.
