Starting middle linebacker Gary Brackett was held out of practice yesterday with a knee injury.
The Colts are waiting to get MRI results back to determine the severity of the injury.

Colts LB Gary Brackett has resumed practicing.
The underrated IDP had been held out of training camp while rehabbing from offseason groin surgery. He’ll again start in the middle in 2006.

Gary Brackett recently had surgery to repair a slightly torn groin.
Brackett will participate in no more voluntary work. His agent believes Brackett will be ready for camp. The Colts have one of the longer lists of ailing players: QB Jim Sorgi (shoulder), WRs Marvin Harrison (hand/elbow) and Aaron Moorehead (back), Ss Bob Sanders (arm) and Mike Doss (shoulder), CBs Marlin Jackson (shoulder), Jason David (sports hernia), and Tim Jennings (ankle), and LBs Cato June (knee/sports hernia) and Keith O’Neil (shoulder).

The Colts expect MLB Gary Brackett (groin) to be ready for the start of training camp.
He underwent surgery in early June. Because of his lack of name recognition, Brackett is one of the better IDP values around.

Colts coach Jim Caldwell has ruled out MLB Gary Brackett (shoulder) and LB Ernie Sims (knee) for Week 2.
The Colts haven’t revealed the nature of Brackett’s injury, but it’s another unneeded blow to an Indianapolis run defense that has no prayer. Look for Pat Angerer to move from the strong side to middle linebacker, where he’ll start against the Browns. WLB Kavell Conner is expected to play Sunday, but is battling a bum left foot. Philip Wheeler figures to start at Sam. Peyton Hillis will be the best matchup-play running back in the NFL this week.

Colts MLB Gary Brackett is unsure of how much time he may miss after injuring his shoulder in Sunday’s loss to the Texans.
When asked how he felt on Monday, Brackett only responded “sore.” Not typically a cause for concern, but it is for a player who was limited to just one game last season as he dealt with groin and toe injuries. Brackett has appeared in more than 12 games just once since 2007.

Colts declared LB Gary Brackett, QB Peyton Manning, CB Kevin Thomas, SS Melvin Bullitt, LB Ernie Sims, G Ryan Diem and DT Fili Moala inactive for Week 3 against the Steelers.
Dallas Clark (foot) is active. With both Sims and Brackett out for the second straight week, the Colts are going to have almost no chance of slowing down Rashard Mendenhall this evening. Mike Pollak should get the start in place of Diem, who is nursing a hight-ankle sprain.
  • FA Running Back #29
Colts GM Ryan Grigson made it clear the team has little interest in re-signing free agents Joseph Addai, Dallas Clark, Gary Brackett, and Melvin Bullitt.
“At some point, maybe you revisit it,” Grigson said. “We’re confident with the decisions we made at the time. We still are and we’re moving forward.” The four Colts veterans have attracted little interest on the market and will likely have to wait until after the draft to catch on with a team.

    Colts released MLB Gary Brackett.
Brackett, 32, had three years and $18.2 million left on his contract, none of which was guaranteed. The Colts are turning the page away from Cover 2 and toward a 3-4 defense. Brackett, a career Colt and former undrafted free agent, missed all but one game in 2011 due to a torn left rotator cuff. He will struggle to find more than a minimum deal on the open market. Brackett was the Colts’ starting middle linebacker for six seasons. He racked up at least 90 tackles five times.
