The Boston Herald’s Michael Felger reports that the Packers and Raiders are “on the verge” of announcing a trade that will send Randy Moss to the Packers.
It’s odd a Boston writer is breaking the story, but he’s also an ESPN radio host and from Wisconsin. We heard rumblings Wednesday night it was close and profootballtalk.com pegged most of these details days go. The deal will reportedly include Aaron Rodgers, Raiders TE Courtney Anderson, and a conditional Oakland pick in 2009 based on Rodgers’ production. Moss will reportedly restructure his deal to catch passes from Brett Favre. While this will help Moss’ numbers, don’t assume either Favre or he will be elite fantasy starters. Rodgers’ presence makes it more likely, though far from certain, that Oakland will draft Calvin Johnson with the first overall pick. In the end, this is a salary dump. Donald Driver and Greg Jennings owners can’t be happy.

Packers WR Greg Jennings returned to practice Thursday.
The impressive rookie missed three days of practices, but could be ready for Green Bay’s preseason opener on Saturday.
  • FA Wide Receiver #85
Packers WR Greg Jennings started at wide receiver during the team’s intrasquad scrimmage.
The rookie was only starting because Robert Ferguson was out (for a death in the family), but Jennings has been the story of Packers camp. He’s ahead of Rod Gardner and is now the team’s No. 3 receiver and could start before the season is up.
  • FA Wide Receiver #85
Packers WR Greg Jennings missed his third straight day of practice with a hamstring injury.
The injury is believed to be minor, but it’s slowing down Jennings’ incredible rookie camp. He’s already moved up to No. 3 on the Green Bay depth chart.
  • FA Wide Receiver #85
Packers WR Greg Jennings made four receptions for 68 yards, including one for 47 yards, in Green Bay’s 17-3 preseason loss to San Diego.
Despite one drop, the second-rounder made a bold statement for Green Bay’s starting receiver spot opposite Donald Driver. Robert Ferguson had one catch for 28 yards and Rod Gardner hauled in two passes
  • FA Wide Receiver #85
Packers rookie WR Greg Jennings returned to practice Tuesday.
The Green Bay Press-Gazette reports Green Bay’s second-round pick had missed “several” prior workouts. To this point, Jennings has not been considered a competitor to start this season.
  • FA Wide Receiver #85
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel does not mention rookie second-round pick Greg Jennings in the Packers competition for a No. 2 receiver.
Robert Ferguson and Rod Gardner are the only reported candidates and coach Mike McCarthy is high on Gardner’s minicamp work: “Everybody has a role on this football team, so if it’s a clear-cut No. 2, great,” he said. “If it’s not, we’ll use a combination of three people to play the No. 2 position.”
  • FA Wide Receiver #85
Packers WR Greg Jennings, a second-round rookie, caught three passes for 115 yards in Green Bay’s second preseason game.
The explosive Western Michigan alum hooked up with Aaron Rodgers on a tipped 85-yard touchdown during fourth-quarter garbage time. Robert Ferguson, competing with Jennings to start, had two grabs for 21 yards.
  • FA Wide Receiver #85
Packers rookie WR Greg Jennings has apparently earned a starting job.
Jennings will start Saturday night’s preseason game over a healthy Robert Ferguson. He’s probably not someone to draft yet, but Jennings is explosive enough to watch for the right matchup. Green Bay’s protection problems could pose major obstacles for their passing game.
  • FA Wide Receiver #85
Packers WR Greg Jennings did not start Saturday night’s game.
Jennings played mostly in the No. 3 receiver role with Robert Ferguson out wide opposite Donald Driver. He played well, but we’d only recommend the rookie if he’s the clear starter.
