Dolphins RB Jaylen Wright said he’s in better shape than he was as a rookie.
Fantasy managers taking late-round stabs on Wright this season will be happy to hear this. The speedy second-year back said he “lost a lot of body fat” this offseason while gaining “a lot of muscle” and estimating that he’s put on roughly six pounds. It’s a marginal increase, but one that Wright clearly hopes will help him better manage his second year in the pros as he’s expected to take on a bigger role with Raheem Mostert now out of the way. Wright rushed 68 times for 249 scoreless yards last season and posted a 9-6-0 rushing line over his final five games of the season, buried behind Mostert and unsigned free agent Jeff Wilson. Wright will hopefully have more value this season, but with Alexander Mattison and sixth-rounder Ollie Gordon also on board, little is guaranteed to the second-year back.

Sports Illustrated’s Dante Collinelli believes Dolphins RB Jaylen Wright is “expected to carry more of the load in 2025.”
Miami gave up its 2025 third-round pick to get into the fourth round and draft Wright at No. 120 overall last year. Their investment didn’t yield any returns in year one as Wright ran for 249 yards on 68 attempts. He played sparingly behind a hobbled Raheem Mostert and an overworked De’Von Achane. The latter was historically efficient in 2023, averaging 7.8 yards per carry on 103 attempts as a rookie. He took on more work in 2024 but his home run potential vanished. He averaged just 4.5 yards per carry on nearly twice as many totes. Miami needs to get something out of Wright and has a starter who thrives on lighter workloads. It makes plenty of sense to get Wright more involved as the successor to Mostert, who was cut this offseason.

    Dolphins released RB Raheem Mostert.
Mostert spent the 2022-2024 seasons with the Dolphins. His Miami tenure is highlighted by a highly productive 2023 showing in which he rushed 209 times for 1,012 yards and 18 touchdowns and caught 25-of-29 targets for 175 yards and three touchdowns. The 32-year-old could find work as a speedy, part-time player but it would be unsurprising to see him retire at this point. With Mostert gone, second-year RB Jaylen Wright steps into the No. 2 role behind De’Von Achane.

Jaylen Wright rushed six times for negative four yards in the Dolphins’ Week 18 loss to the Jets.
Wright essentially redshirted his rookie season with the Dolphins. The rookie fourth-rounder rushed six times for negative four yards in the Dolphins’ Week 18 loss to the Jets and ends his season with a rushing line of 68-249-0. He showed some flash earlier this season when he rushed for 86 yards on 13 carries against the Patriots, but Wright’s role in 2024 was a disappointing one for him and his fantasy managers. He’ll enter 2025 as the presumed backup to De’Von Achane, but if Achane’s volume is similar to what we saw this season, there won’t be much standalone value for Wright in his sophomore campaign.
  • MIA Running Back #25
Jaylen Wright had two rushes for seven yards in the Dolphins’ Week 14 win against the Jets, adding two catches for six yards.
Wright saw more playing time than usual with Raheem Mostert (hip) sidelined. De’Von Achane dominated backfield touches, however, see 20 touches and scoring a touchdown against New York. Wright won’t be fantasy relevant unless Achane and Mostert miss time.
  • MIA Running Back #31
Dolphins declared RB Raheem Mostert, QB Skylar Thompson, WR River Cracraft, CB Ethan Bonner, TE Jack Stoll, and OL Andrew Meyer inactive for Week 14 against the Jets.
Mostert will sit against New York with his lingering hip issue. De’Von Achane should be locked in for 20 touches against a suspect Jets defense and explosive rookie RB Jaylen Wright could see a handful of touches in the Miami backfield. Wright would only be a fantasy option in deep formats with multiple flex spots.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Raheem Mostert (hip) is not expected to play in Week 14 against the Jets.
Mostert has been banged up all year and has never really looked right. This is backed up by the numbers. He is averaging 3.6 yards per carry, well below his career average. With Mostert presumably out for Week 14, Jaylen Wright will serve as the Dolphins’ No. 2 back versus the Jets. Wright is worth a stash in deeper leagues but isn’t likely to steal much work from De’Von Achane.
  • MIA Running Back #25
Jaylen Wright rushed seven times for 28 yards in a Week 12 win over the Patriots.
Wright has emerged as the clear back-up in Miami with Raheem Mostert handling just two carries on the day. Wright has big-time speed and is capable of hitting a home run on any touch, which makes him worth stashing in case anything were to happen to De’Von Achane.
  • MIA Running Back #25
Jaylen Wright rushed five times for four yards in the Dolphins’ Week 11 win over the Raiders.
Wright out-carried Raheem Mostert once again, though he has been capped at six carries over his past five games. His increased involvement has largely rendered Mostert a value-less fantasy option. Wright himself isn’t seeing quite enough work to have any standalone value of his own. Wright is stuck in the RB5/6 range for Week 12 versus New England.
  • MIA Running Back #25
Jaylen Wright rushed five times for three yards in the Dolphins’ Week 10 win over the Rams.
De’Von Achane held a commanding stranglehold on the Miami backfield against the Rams, seeing 17 opportunities to the three of Raheem Mostert and five of Wright. The team largely struggled to move the football but escaped with a victory to keep their slim playoff hopes alive as we head down the stretch in the 2024 regular season. Wright is likely to need an injury ahead of him on the depth chart to return viable fantasy stats moving forward.
