Browns declared WR Jordan Payton, CB Marcus Burley, ILB Scooby Wright, OT Shon Coleman, CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun, DE John Hughes, and NT Gabe Wright inactive for Week 2 against the Ravens.
They’re all healthy scratches. Payton is a fifth-round rookie.
  • FA Wide Receiver
NFL suspended Browns WR Jordan Payton four games for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drugs policy.
It’ll end Payton’s season. A fifth-round pick out of UCLA, Payton earned only 30 snaps on offense while wallowing behind Terrelle Pryor, Corey Coleman, Andrew Hawkins, Ricardo Louis, and Rashard Higgins on the Browns’ wide receiver depth chart. Payton may be hard pressed to make the Browns’ 2017 roster, but he will be given every opportunity in next year’s training camp.
  • FA Wide Receiver
Browns signed fifth-round WR Jordan Payton to a four-year contract.
UCLA’s all-time leading receiver, Payton is nevertheless a low-ceiling possession wideout. He’s expected to struggle with NFL man coverage, though he did show well at the Combine. Payton could get some rookie opportunities in the slot for the math-minded Browns.
  • FA Wide Receiver
Browns waived/released WR Jordan Payton, RB Terrence Magee, LB Deon King, WR Jordan Leslie, WR Rannell Hall, TE J.P. Holtz, OL Anthony Fabiano, DL Xavier Cooper, LB Kenneth Olugbode, DB Najee Murray, and K Cody Parkey.
Payton was a fifth-round pick last year who played just 30 snaps as a rookie and was suspended four games for PEDs to close out the season.
  • FA Wide Receiver
Browns selected UCLA WR Jordan Payton with the No. 154 overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft.
Payton (6'1/207) made 40 starts for the Bruins, finishing his career as UCLA’s all-time leader in receptions (201). He parlayed them into 2,702 yards (13.4 YPR) and 11 touchdowns. Payton helped himself in Indy, running 4.47 with a 34 1/2-inch vertical and 10-foot-1 broad jump. An aggressive and physical wideout, Payton projects as a strong-handed possession target who will likely struggle to beat NFL man coverage. He has some potential to grow into a reliable No. 3 receiver, perhaps in the Jason Avant mold.
