Orioles RHP Luis F. Castillo elected free agency.
Castillo heads to the open market in search of a new opportunity after compiling a bloated 7.71 ERA across seven innings over two starts for the Mariners back in April. The 30-year-old righty was acquired by the Orioles in an early-May trade but never wound up making an appearance for Baltimore.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher #43
Orioles sent RHP Luis F. Castillo outright to Triple-A Norfolk.
Castillo will remain with Baltimore as emergency starting pitching depth after going unclaimed on waivers. The 30-year-old righty was jettisoned from the Orioles’ 40-man roster over the weekend. He made two starts earlier this year for the Mariners before being shipped to the Orioles in early May.

Orioles designated RHP Luis F. Castillo for assignment.
Castillo was acquired back in early May from the Mariners in a small trade and never wound up making an appearance for the Orioles. The 30-year-old swingman figures to attract some interest on waivers, but could wind up sneaking through unclaimed and remain with Baltimore as extra organizational depth.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher #43
Orioles acquired RHP Luis F. Castillo from the Mariners for cash considerations.
Castillo heads to Triple-A Norfolk as quality extra starting pitching depth for the Orioles, who are struggling to find solutions for the back of their rotation which currently features struggling veterans Charlie Morton and Kyle Gibson. The 30-year-old righty holds a career 5.06 ERA in five appearances (two starts) in the majors.

Mariners designated RHP Luis F. Castillo for assignment.
The other Luis Castillo had a 7.71 ERA and a 5/7 K/BB over seven innings in two starts for the Mariners last month. He wasn’t great in Triple-A, either, so there’s a good chance he’ll clear waivers.

Mariners optioned RHP Luis F. Castillo to Triple-A Tacoma.
Castillo was not effective in either start he made while with the team, giving up seven runs over seven innings against the Giants and Astros. The Mariners will likely bring up a fresh bullpen arm before Friday’s series begins against the Rangers.

Luis F. Castillo was charged for four runs — three earned — in four innings while not picking up a decision Wednesday versus the Astros.
We’re just going to go ahead and say it: This is not the best Luis Castillo who pitches for the Mariners. The 30-year-old walked five and needed 100 pitches to get through four innings, and he was fortunate to allow just the four runs. He was also responsible for the error that caused the unearned run. If Castillo makes another start next week, he should be far away from your fantasy roster.

Luis F. Castillo allowed three runs in three innings in a no-decision against the Giants on Friday.
Castillo was called up for a spot start against the Giants, and unsurprisingly, it didn’t go particularly well. The 30-year-old was fortunate to give up just the three, and the Mariners had seen enough after 68 pitches. Castillo will almost certainly be headed back to Tacoma before Saturday’s game.

Mariners selected the contract of Luis F. Castillo from Triple-A Tacoma.
It’ll be the first time that players with the same first and last name start back-to-back games since the Bobby Jones’ combo for the Rockies in 1993. Castillo is expected to just make a spot start for Seattle, and his inability to miss bats makes him a less-than-spectacular streaming option for Friday’s tilt against the Giants.

Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports reports that the Mariners are expected to start Luis F. Castillo on Friday evening against the Giants.
The M’s have a spot open in their rotation after optioning Emerson Hancock to Triple-A Tacoma following his disastrous outing against the Tigers on Monday. It would be the first career start for the 30-year-old right-hander. It would also mean that the Mariners are starting different Luis Castillo’s in consecutive games after their star right-hander dominated the Tigers on Wednesday afternoon.
