  • MLB Relief Pitcher #54
Tigers sent RHP Luis Castillo outright to Triple-A Toledo.
Castillo had a 1.74 ERA in 40 relief appearances for Toledo last season and also pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings for the Tigers. Still, no one thought it was worth putting in a claim for him. He’ll be eligible for free agency.

Tigers optioned RHP Luis Castillo to Triple-A Toledo.
Same names. Vastly different talents. The “other” Castillo has been effective with 3 2/3 scoreless innings for the Tigers, but heads down with Joey Wentz being recalled to come a member of the Detroit rotation.

The Tigers plan to recall right-hander Luis Castillo from Triple-A Toledo on Monday.
The team designated Michael Pineda for assignment on Sunday to free up a spot on the roster. The 27-year-old hurler has only made two appearances with the big league club this season, hurling a pair of scoreless innings. He has been dominant at Triple-A though, registering a 1.65 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 41/11 K/BB ratio across 43 2/3 innings.

Tigers optioned RHP Luis Castillo to Triple-A Toledo.
Castillo is sent to the minors to clear room on the roster for Daniel Norris, who will be activated on Friday. The 27-year-old hurled a scoreless inning in his only appearance with Detroit after being promoted on August 6.

Tigers selected the contract of RHP Luis Castillo from Triple-A Toledo.
No, not that Luis Castillo. We checked. Seriously. The 27-year-old journeyman righty signed a minor league contract with the Tigers back in February and has gone on to record a stellar 1.66 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 35/10 K/BB ratio across 38 innings between Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo to earn his first call up to the majors. He’s certainly earned a shot in Detroit.

Tigers signed RHP Luis Castillo to a minor league contract.
No, not that Luis Castillo. We promise. The 26-year-old righty posted a lackluster 4.72 ERA, 1.89 WHIP and 35/18 K/BB ratio across 34 innings (29 appearances) between Double-A Amarillo and Triple-A Reno in the Diamondbacks’ minor-league system last year. He’ll provide the Tigers with some additional organizational relief depth this upcoming season.
