Braves signed INF Aaron Schunk to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
It was bound to happen at some point: Schunk grew up in Georgia and was drafted by the Rockies out of the University of Georgia in 2019. The 28-year-old hit .222/.246/.302 in 131 plate appearances for the Rockies the last two seasons. Unfortunately, his bat just doesn’t seem good enough to make him more than a quad-A player.
  • FA 3rd Baseman #30
Rockies INF Aaron Schunk elected free agency.
Schunk hits the open market after refusing an outright assignment to Triple-A Albuquerque. The 28-year-old infielder batted .222 (28-for-126) with two homers and seven RBI across 55 games for the Rockies over the past two seasons. He’ll likely wind up somewhere on a minor league pact as organizational depth.
  • COL 3rd Baseman #30
Rockies optioned INF Aaron Schunk to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Schunk was recalled when Orlando Arcia was placed on the injured list with elbow inflammation, and he’ll head back to the Pacific Coast League now that Arcia is back. Schunk is likely to be organizational depth for the remainder of his career.

Rockies recalled INF Aaron Schunk from Triple-A Albuquerque.
The 28-year-old infielder will take the place of the injured Orlando Arcia (elbow) on the team’s active roster. Schunk has appeared in 11 games for the Rockies on the season, hitting .214 (6-for-28) with zero homers, zero RBI and an 8/0 K/BB ratio in 29 plate appearances. He can continue to be ignored for fantasy purposes.
  • COL 3rd Baseman #30
Rockies sent INF Aaron Schunk outright to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Schunk predictably went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment over the weekend. The 27-year-old hit .214 in 11 games earlier this season in the big leagues. He’ll stick around as extra organizational depth, but is off Colorado’s 40-man roster.
  • COL 3rd Baseman #30
Rockies designated INF Aaron Schunk for assignment.
Schunk loses his spot on Colorado’s 40-man roster to make room for Keston Hiura to come up from Triple-A Albuquerque ahead of Saturday’s game against the Mets. The 27-year-old hit .214 in 11 games earlier this season in the big leagues.

Rockies optioned INF Aaron Schunk to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Schunk heads back to the minors to make room for the Rockies to officially sign Orlando Arcia ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Cubs. The 27-year-old infielder has hit .214 in 11 games this season in the big leagues.
  • COL 1st Baseman #4
Michael Toglia is not in the lineup for the Rockies on Thursday against the Phillies.
This is now the second game in a row in which Togia is on the bench, and his third in the last six games for Colorado. The 26-year-old has plenty of raw power, but he’s hitting just .205/.272/.367 with a nearly 39 percent strikeout rate this season. He’s hard to roster in most fantasy leagues with that profile and only six home runs. Kyle Farmer will play first base against left-hander Ranger Suarez while Tyler Freeman is in right field and Aaron Schunk starts at second base.
  • COL 3rd Baseman #30
Rockies activated INF Aaron Schunk from the 10-day injured list.
The Rockies’ infield is getting reinforcements on Friday with Schunk and Ezequiel Tovar both returning from the injured list. The 27-year-old has been shelved since April 26 due to a left groin strain. He is not in the team’s starting lineup for Friday night’s battle against Corbin Burnes and the Diamondbacks in Arizona.
  • COL 3rd Baseman #30
Rockies placed INF Aaron Schunk on the 10-day injured list with a left groin strain.
Schunk was up with the Rockies over the past week as extra infield depth, going 5-for-20 in seven games. He’s likely to miss a couple weeks, even if it’s a relatively minor issue.
