Alan Roden will undergo season-ending left thumb surgery.
Roden was transferred to the 60-day injured list over the weekend after suffering a ligament sprain in his left thumb. There should be an official timetable from the club at some point soon, but we’re anticipating he’ll be ready for spring training.
  • MIN Right Fielder #19
Twins transferred OF Alan Roden to the 60-day injured list.
Roden will miss the remainder of the season after being diagnosed earlier this week with a ligament sprain in his left thumb. The 25-year-old rookie came over from the Blue Jays at last month’s trade deadline.
  • MIN Right Fielder #19
Twins placed OF Alan Roden on the 10-day injured list with a left thumb sprain.
Roden hits the shelf after suffering a thumb ligament sprain during Thursday’s loss to Detroit. The 25-year-old rookie is likely facing a multi-week absence, but there isn’t an official return timeline yet from the Twins. There should be some clarity on his status at some point in the coming days.
  • MIN Right Fielder #19
Alan Roden (thumb) was scratched from the Twins’ starting lineup for Friday night’s tilt against the Tigers.
The 25-year-old outfielder aggravated his jammed left thumb when he slid (unsuccessfully) into home plate during the 10th inning of Thursday’s loss to the Tigers. He’s considered day-to-day.
  • MIN Center Fielder #25
Twins activated OF Byron Buxton from the 10-day injured list.
Buxton missed 15 days with rib-cage inflammation. It’s best to activate him immediately in fantasy leagues, but he probably will get more off days than usual down the stretch, what with the Twins simply playing out the string. Carson McCusker was demoted, and Austin Martin and Alan Roden could see less playing time with Buxton back. It’s also possible one of those two could head back to Triple-A once Matt Wallner returns from the paternity list.
  • MIN Right Fielder #9
Trevor Larnach (side) remains out of the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Royals.
Larnach remains on the bench for the third consecutive contest since being scratched from Wednesday’s lineup with left side soreness. It’ll be rookie Alan Roden and Carson McCusker filling in at left field and DH, respectively, on Saturday night in his place.
  • MIN Right Fielder #19
Alan Roden is in left field and leading off on Saturday against the Guardians.
Roden went 0-for-5 with a pair of strikeouts on Friday night in his Twins debut. The 25-year-old rookie corner outfielder has posted some impressive numbers at the Triple-A level, but they haven’t carried over into the big leagues this season. He figures to play virtually everyday for Minnesota after being acquired at the trade deadline from Toronto in the Louis Varland and Ty France trade.
  • TOR Right Fielder #18
Twins acquired OF Alan Roden and LHP Kendry Rojas from the Blue Jays in exchange for RHP Louis Varland and 1B Ty France.
Do the Twins hate right-handed outfielders? They acquired Roden and James Outman to join an outfield of Trevor Larnach, Matt Wallner, and DaShawn Keirsey Jr. Not one of them hits right-handed. That makes it hard to see exactly where Roden fits into the picture, but the 25-year-old was hitting .331/.423/.496 in 32 games at Triple-A with three home runs and four steals and is ready for MLB at-bats.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher #37
The Blue Jays are acquiring reliever Louis Varland and first baseman Ty France from the Twins, reports The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.
Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith adds that the Blue Jays are sending rookie outfielder Alan Roden to the Twins. Toronto adds another hard-throwing arm to their relief corps and a potential DH upgrade ahead of the trade deadline as Minnesota continues to tear down to the studs.
  • TOR Right Fielder #18
Blue Jays optioned OF Alan Roden to Triple-A Buffalo.
Roden was up with Toronto for a pair of contests over the weekend while Will Wagner was away from the club to attend his father’s induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
