Prieto

Prieto currently has a 2.64 ERA in nine starts in the Mexican Pacific Leagues. Both he and Schmack should get opportunities to make the Tigers as middle relievers.

Prieto was starting for Triple-A Toledo, but his contract allowed him to become a free agent if he wasn’t called up to the Tigers by today. He was 1-1 with a 3.68 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 19/5 k/bb rate in 22 innings for Toledo, so he’ll find some other team to give him a shot.

Prieto has been out since April 25 with a ruptured tendon in the middle finger of his right hand. If healthy, some team will pick him up for their Triple-A club. He had a 2.55 ERA in four starts before getting hurt.

The veteran right-hander had a 2.55 ERA in four starts before going on the DL.

Prieto had a 2.55 ERA in four starts for Triple-A Nashville this year, but he was got hurt in late April and was released in June. A strong winter should allow him to land a minor league contract.

It wasn’t a good day for a couple of Detroit fifth-starter candidates. Shane Loux replaced Prieto in the third and allowed four runs in 1 2/3 innings.

Prieto had allowed nine runs in 8 1/3 innings this spring. He’ll probably front Triple-A Toledo’s rotation.

Prieto had a poor spring in his attempt to win a spot on the Tigers, but he’ll get another opportunity eventually if he continues to pitch well for Toledo.
