Rays re-signed RHP Brian Van Belle to a two-year minor league contract.
Van Belle made his major league debut with the Rays in August, allowing five runs over 8 1/3 innings in four appearances, before finishing up on the injured list with elbow soreness and then undergoing surgery. He’s expected to miss all of 2026, but the Rays will have compete for a spot in 2027.

Rays released RHP Brian Van Belle.
Van Belle underwent elbow surgery earlier this offseason and is expected to miss all of next season. The 29-year-old righty was jettisoned from Tampa Bay’s 40-man roster earlier this offseason after making four relief appearances in the big leagues last year. He spent most of the year as a starter at the Triple-A level, recording a solid 3.17 ERA — 3.66 FIP — and 88/17 K/BB ratio across 105 innings of work.

Rays sent RHP Brian Van Belle outright to Triple-A Durham.
Unfortunately, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times is reporting that Van Belle ended up needing elbow surgery after the season and is in line to miss all of 2026. It’s his first outright assignment and he doesn’t qualify for minor league free agency, so he’ll stick with the Rays for now. The 29-year-old made his MLB debut with the Rays last season, allowing five runs in 8 1/3 innings over four appearances in August and September before going down with elbow soreness.
  • TB Center Fielder #26
Rays designated OF Kameron Misner, LHP Nate Lavender, RHP Brian Van Belle and 1B Bob Seymour for assignment.
There simply isn’t any room for Misner and Seymour with Tampa Bay’s crowded positional mix moving forward, but they should generate some interest on waivers in the coming days. Misner offers some appeal as a righty-mashing platoon specialist while Seymour makes sense as a bench bat.

Rays transferred RHP Brian Van Belle from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list.
Van Belle was placed on the IL over the weekend with elbow inflammation after just four appearances out of the Rays pen. He’s done for the year with a 5.40 ERA in 8 1/3 innings in his major league debut.

Rays placed RHP Brian Van Belle on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation.
Van Belle heads to the shelf after compiling a pedestrian 5.40 ERA across 8 1/3 innings over five relief appearances since being called up back in late August. There’s a strong possibility his season is over given the nature of the injury.

Rays recalled RHP Brian Van Belle from Triple-A Durham.
He’ll take the place of the surprisingly demoted Joe Boyle on Friday. It’s unclear if he’ll work out of the rotation in Boyle’s place with the Rays or if he’ll function as a long man out of the bullpen for the time being. The 28-year-old hurler has posted a 3.17 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and an 88/17 K/BB ratio over 105 innings at the Triple-A level across three organizations this season.

Rays acquired RHP Brian Van Belle and LHP Adam Serwinowski from the Reds for RHP Zack Littell.
Van Belle is on the move for the second time this season after being shipped to Cincinnati from the Red Sox back in June. The 28-year-old righty has been working as a starter at the Triple-A level of late and will presumably head to Triple-A Durham for now.

Reds acquired RHP Brian Van Belle from the Red Sox for cash considerations.
The 28-year-old hurler had been designated for assignment by the Red Sox earlier in the week. Van Belle has done a very nice job at the Triple-A level this season, compiling a 2.29 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and a 41/7 K/BB ratio over 51 innings in 12 appearances (eight starts). He’ll add extra rotation depth for the Reds.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher #77
Red Sox designated RHP Brian Van Belle for assignment.
Van Belle loses his spot on Boston’s 40-man roster with righty reliever Jorge Alcala coming over from the Twins in a small trade. The 28-year-old righty was called up earlier this week from Triple-A Worcester and didn’t end up getting into a game for the Red Sox. There’s a decent chance he’s scooped up off waivers by another organization in need of relief help.
