Reds signed LHP Caleb Ferguson to a one-year contract.
It’s worth $4.5 million, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Gordon Wittenmyer, so it’s a 50% raise for Ferguson over the $3 million he came away with last time around. The 29-year-old had a 3.58 ERA for the Pirates and Mariners last season, but that came with a greatly diminished 19% strikeout rate after he’d never finished below 26% previously. He’ll compete for a setup role in front of Emilio Pagán.

The Reds are signing reliever Caleb Ferguson to a one-year contract, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.
The relief market continues to move at a breakneck pace while the position player sector progresses at a glacial rate. Ferguson provides Cincinnati with a badly-needed experienced southpaw that they can deploy in late-game situations, something they lacked this past season. The 29-year-old produced a strong 3.58 ERA — 3.26 FIP — 1.16 WHIP and 18.9 percent strikeout rate across 65 1/3 innings over 70 appearances between the Pirates and Mariners last year. He’ll operate in middle relief helping bridge the gap to stopper Emilio Pagàn.

Mariners acquired LHP Caleb Ferguson from the Pirates for RHP Jeter Martinez.
The trade is now official. Ferguson heads to Seattle as additional middle relief help after posting a strong 3.74 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 34/14 K/BB ratio across 43 1/3 innings (45 appearances) this season in his Pirates debut. The 29-year-old southpaw has made 308 relief appearances in the big leagues since 2018.

The Mariners are acquiring reliever Caleb Ferguson from the Pirates, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
No word on the potential return yet. Ferguson provides Seattle with some additional left-handed relief depth heading into the home stretch. The 29-year-old southpaw has compiled a solid 3.74 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 34/14 K/BB ratio across 43 1/3 innings (45 appearances) this season in his Pirates debut.

Caleb Ferguson allowed one run and five hits over two innings Thursday in a win over the Twins.
Even though they recently added Andrew Heaney, the Pirates are following through with plans to stretch Ferguson out as a starter. His velocity today was down about two mph from where he was as a reliever last season, and that’s probably two mph he can’t afford to lose and still be helpful. The pen is where he belongs.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #24
Johan Oviedo, making his way back from Tommy John, is currently throwing batting practice to hitters but isn’t quite on the same schedule with the rest of Pittsburgh’s starters.
The hope is that Oviedo will be ready to open the year at the back of the team’s rotation. If not, Caleb Ferguson could step in for a spell.

Pirates signed LHP Caleb Ferguson to a one-year contract.
The deal was reported to be worth $3 million. Ferguson hasn’t done much starting of games since he was in the minors in 2018, but the Pirates are talking about stretching him out and having him compete for a rotation spot. We’d say it’s more likely that he’ll be in the pen on Opening Day. He has a 3.44 ERA in 249 career relief appearances.

According to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Noah Hiles, the Pirates have signed LHP Caleb Ferguson to a one-year contract.
Ferguson pitched in 62 games in 2024 split between the Astros and the Yankees. The 28-year-old posted a 4.64 ERA and 1.49 WHIP in 54 1/3 innings; however, he was much better in Houston, posting a 3.86 ERA and 26/9 K/BB ratio in 21 innings. He likely sets up as the main late-inning left-handed pitcher in the Pirates’ bullpen at the present moment.
  • NYY Relief Pitcher #64
Astros acquired LHP Caleb Ferguson from the Yankees for RHP Kelly Austin.
New York is also getting some international bonus pool money in the deal, which is now official. Ferguson provides the Astros with another left-hander in their bullpen, something they’ve struggled with in previous years prior to landing All-Star southpaw Josh Hader last offseason.

Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports that the Yankees are trading Caleb Ferguson to the Astros.
Jack Curry of YES Network reports that New York will get international pool money and a minor leaguer. Ferguson will provide a needed depth piece in the bullpen for the Astros, and the Yankees don’t have the roster room for the right-hander after they acquired Mark Leiter Jr. from the Cubs. Ferguson will likely work in the middle innings while with Houston.
