Giants placed LHP Carson Whisenhunt on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to August 28, with a back strain.
No word yet on how much time Whisenhunt will miss after his back tightened up on his this weekend, but he’s obviously no longer starting on Monday against the Rockies. The 24-year-old rookie allowed three runs over five innings on Wednesday in a win over the Cubs. There should be a more definitive update on his status at some point in the coming days.

Carson Whisenhunt is unlikely to make his next start on Monday against the Rockies due to back discomfort.
It’s not the worst outcome for Whisenhunt to miss a potentially disastrous start at high-octane Coors Field, but the fact it’s for physical reasons is concerning. It sounds like there’s a chance he’s headed to the injured list. It’ll be Kai-Wei Teng taking the ball in his place if he’s not ready for Monday’s contest.

Carson Whisenhunt allowed three runs over five innings and picked up a win Wednesday over the Cubs.
Whisenhunt allowed five hits, three walks and he was able to strike out three. Outside of a three-run homer allowed to Nico Hoerner, the southpaw was able to keep the Cubs in check while picking up his second career victory. Whisenhunt will get the lowly Rockies next week, but that start will take place in Colorado.

Fantasy managers will need to see more before considering Whisenhunt in mixed leagues. He’s lined up to face the Cubs at home next week.

Giants recalled LHP Carson Whisenhunt from Triple-A Sacramento.
Whisenhunt is not a recommended streaming option for fantasy purposes when he faces the red-hot Brewers on Friday night. The 24-year-old lefty will replace an injured Landen Roupp (knee) in San Francisco’s rotation over the final five weeks. He offers enough strikeout potential to be worth monitoring in deeper mixed leagues, but he’s more of a wait-and-see prospect in shallow formats.

The Giants are promoting pitching prospect Carson Whisenhunt from Triple-A Sacramento.
Whisenhunt will take the ball for Friday’s series opener against the Brewers with Logan Webb being pushed back for some extra rest. The 24-year-old southpaw, who made three starts earlier this season for San Francisco, will take the rotation spot of Landen Roupp, who suffered an apparent serious left knee injury during Wednesday’s start against the Padres. He offers enough strikeout potential to be worth monitoring in deeper mixed leagues, but he’s more of a wait-and-see prospect in shallow formats.

The 24-year-old southpaw made three starts for the Giants, registering a 5.02 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and a 12/7 K/BB ratio across 14 1/3 innings of work. His demotion could mean that Landen Roupp will be ready to return and take that spot in the rotation on Friday against the Rays.

Giants selected the contract of LHP Carson Whisenhunt from Triple-A Sacramento.
Whisenhunt gets the call to make his major-league debut on Monday night against the Pirates at pitcher-friendly Oracle Park. The 24-year-old southpaw has seen his strikeout rate dip at Triple-A this season, but improved command has led to stronger results from a run-prevention standpoint. Armed with a lively mid-90s fastball and a plus changeup, the Giants’ top pitching prospect has the tools to develop into a fantasy-relevant mid-rotation arm over time. Expectations should be tempered out of the gate, but he’s a worthwhile speculative add in deeper leagues based on long-term upside.
