Braves sent C Chadwick Tromp outright to Triple-A Gwinnett.
The 31-year-old backstop had been designated for assignment on Thursday, but he passed through waivers unclaimed. As expected, he’ll continue to serve as extra catching depth for the Braves at the Triple-A level.

Braves designated C Chadwick Tromp for assignment.
Tromp had gone 5-for-25 for the Braves while helping fill in with Drake Baldwin on the injured list. He will likely clear waivers and could re-sign with Atlanta on a minor league deal.

Chadwick Tromp went 2-for-3 off the bench with two RBI and one run scored in a 5-4 win over the Nationals on Friday.
Tromp entered this game in the seventh inning after Mike Yastrzemski pinch-hit for Sandy León in the prior frame. That’s meaningful as the Braves try to work out their catching tandem in the wake of Drake Baldwin’s oblique injury. Also, it was meaningful because Tromp had run-scoring hits in both the 10th and 11th innings including the walk-off single. Both balls were hit hard as well. Neither of these catchers have ever been much of hitters, but Tromp projects slightly better and could be moderately interesting in two-catcher formats with both Baldwin and Sean Murphy out for an extended period.

Braves selected the contract of C Chadwick Tromp from Triple-A Gwinnett
Within one week, the Braves have lost Drake Baldwin and Sean Murphy to injuries and Jonah Heim to waivers. That’s a drastic loss of catching depth. For the next month or so, it seems like Sandy Leon will be the starting catcher, with Tromp also mixing in a couple of times a week. That’s a big blow to both the offense and the pitching staff in Atlanta

Braves optioned RHP Hunter Stratton and INF Nacho Alvarez Jr. to Triple-A Gwinnett; Reassigned RHP Javy Guerra and C Chadwick Tromp to minor league camp.
Stratton was always facing an uphill battle at earning a spot in the Braves’ Opening Day bullpen and surrendering six earned runs over 1 1/3 innings during Grapefruit League play sealed the deal for him. Alvarez will open as an everyday player at Triple-A Gwinnett and will most certainly see time with the Braves at some point in 2026. The Braves now have 62 players remaining on the major league side of camp.

Braves signed C Chadwick Tromp to a minor league contract.
Tromp appeared in eight games between the Orioles and Braves this past season as emergency catching depth. The 30-year-old backstop has been a mainstay in Atlanta’s catching stable for the last half-decade and will be with the club in spring training as insurance behind Drake Baldwin and Sean Murphy.
  • BOS Catcher #41
Red Sox signed C Chadwick Tromp to a minor league contract.
A little extra catching depth. Tromp has appeared in two games for the Braves and six for the Orioles this season, going 3-for-21 with a homer. He’s a career .221/.230/.390 hitter in 178 plate appearances.
  • BAL Catcher #41
Orioles sent C Chadwick Tromp outright to Triple-A Norfolk.
The 30-year-old backstop had been designated for assignment after being activated from the injured list, but he passed through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as extra catching depth for the O’s.
  • BAL Catcher #41
Orioles placed C Chadwick Tromp on the 10-day injured list with a lower back strain.
MLB.com’s Jake Rill adds that Tromp is the 23rd Orioles player to hit the injured list this season. He’s also the third catcher Baltimore has lost due to injury in the past two weeks alone. It’ll be veteran journeyman Jacob Stallings, not top prospect Samuel Basallo, coming up to take his spot on the club’s active roster. The 30-year-old suffered the injury during Monday’s series opener against the Rangers and figures to miss a couple weeks.
  • BAL Catcher #41
Chadwick Tromp was removed from Monday’s game against the Rangers with back tightness.
It’s starting to look like the Orioles might legitimately run out of catchers. Gary Sánchez is the only healthy backstop left on the club’s 40-man roster at the moment unless Baltimore finally wants to finally call up top prospect Samuel Basallo.
