Rangers hired Skip Schumaker as a senior advisor to baseball operations.
Schumaker spent the last two years managing the Marlins and will head to the Rangers in a front office role. It’s possible he’ll attract some interest from other clubs for their managerial vacancies, but it appears likely he’ll wind up as the successor for future Hall of Fame skipper Bruce Bochy in Texas once he’s finally ready to retire for good.

The Rangers named Ross Fenstermaker general manager and Cole Figueroa assistant general manager.
Fenstermaker, who has spent 15 years in the organization, is being promoted after Chris Young was bumped up to president of baseball operations a couple of months ago. The 37-year-old Figueroa, a former infielder who had 84 major league plate appearances from 2014-16, had been working in the Rays front office.

Rangers agreed to a multi-year contract extension with general manager Chris Young.
Young was also promoted to president of baseball operations. A Dallas native, Young became the general manager before the 2021 season. He was effectively running the baseball operations after Jon Daniels was fired towards the end of the 2022 season. In Young’s first full season in charge, the Rangers won their first World Series title in the franchise’s history. Even after an uneven 2024 season, it’s hardly a surprise that the club wants Young steering the ship for years to come.

Baseball America selected the Texas Rangers as the 2023 Organization of the Year.
It’s not really a surprise given that the Rangers won the World Series, but J.J Cooper of Baseball America said they were not just picking based on that. “This is an award that looks at the totality of an organization’s baseball operations. The Rangers have been adept at signing free agents who had made an impact, but they’ve also succeeded in adding talent in trades and have had success in landing draftees like Evan Carter and Wyatt Langford.” This is the second time the Rangers have been selected as the Organization of the Year, last winning in 1989.

Rangers hired Ian Kinsler as a special assistant to baseball operations.
Kinsler will serve as a special assistant to general manager Chris Young. He retired at the conclusion of the 2019 season after a 14-year career in the majors. He spent nearly a decade with the Rangers at the outset of his career and wound up making three All-Star Game appearances during that span.

Rangers hired Dayton Moore as a senior advisor to baseball operations.
Moore has officially joined the Rangers’ front office under general manager Chris Young in an advisory role just a few weeks after there were several reports linking him to the organization. Moore was dismissed as Kansas City’s president of baseball operations back in September. He had led the Royals’ front office since 2006.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, “sources within the industry continue to link” former Royals president Dayton Moore to the Rangers.
Jon Heyman of the New York Post says he’s caught wind of similar chatter. Texas is seeking a replacement for Jon Daniels, who was let go from his role as president of baseball operations in mid-August after a big offseason of spending failed to yield better overall on-field results. Moore has a direct tie to current Rangers general manager Chris Young, as Young spent the final three years of his pitching career in Kansas City. Moore led KC’s front office from 2006 all the way until the end of the 2022 season. Stay tuned.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Rangers will focus on hiring a manager this offseason before addressing their front-office void.
General manager Chris Young has effectively taken over baseball operations following last month’s dismissal of longtime president of baseball operations Jon Daniels. Tony Beasley has taken over at the helm as Rangers interim skipper since Chris Woodward was fired back on August 15. No word yet on any potential candidates, but Texas figures to move quickly on the managerial front once the offseason begins.

The Rangers have hired Nick Hundley as special assistant to the general manager.
Hundley retired in 2020 after a 12-year career in the majors. He joined MLB’s operations department following his retirement, which is where Chris Young worked before accepting the Rangers’ general manager job. Of course, Young also knows Hundley well from their time together with the Padres as players, so there’s a familiarity here.

Rangers hired Tim Hyers to be their hitting coach on Sunday.
Hyers spent the last four seasons as the Red Sox hitting coach before leaving the organization last week. The 50-year-old was a desired candidate by many organizations, but Jon Daniels and Rangers general manager Chris Young were aggressive in their pursuit to further reshape the infrastructure in Texas.
