Derek Jeter announced Monday that he has stepped down as CEO of the Marlins and will relinquish his ownership stake in the team.
Big news out of Miami. Jeter has been with the Marlins since 2017 as a part of the new ownership group. The club has made impressive strides since then, with an abundance of young pitching talent, even making the expanded playoffs during the shortened 2020 campaign. However, in his statement Monday, the Hall of Famer said that “the vision for the future of the franchise is different than the one I signed up to lead.” It’s unclear what could be next for Jeter, but obviously we can start the speculation about a possible return to the Yankees in some capacity. The timing is obviously interesting as CBA negotiations continue. Per Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Jeter was apparently unhappy about the Marlins’ budget and the ability to spend on more players.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, this year’s National Baseball Hall of Fame ceremony is expected to be postponed to 2021.
The Hall of Fame is expected to meet with their board members this week before making an official decision. Still, it’s the logical call amid the COVID-19 pandemic. There are always gigantic crowds for the ceremonies in Cooperstown, New York and the same was expected this year with Derek Jeter and Larry Walker originally scheduled to be enshrined on the weekend of July 24-26. Now they’ll be inducted along with whomever ends up getting voted in next January. Curt Schilling likely has the best shot.

Although Derek Jeter (bruised left elbow) expects to play tonight against the Indians, New York manager Joe Torre will likely force him to miss this evening’s contest.
Torre has a very conservative approach when it comes to player injuries. We expect Jeter to lobby hard to play tonight, but sit out just the same.

Derek Jeter (dislocated left shoulder) will begin practice swinging a bat in the next day or two.
He took 70 ground balls at the minor-league complex and is now playing catch. Look for Jeter to be back before the middle of May.

Yankees manager Joe Torre is considering batting Derek Jeter leadoff and moving Alfonso Soriano into the middle of the lineup.
Soriano would probably follow Jason Giambi and bat cleanup. However, Torre wants to be certain Jeter’s leg is fine before he makes any changes.

''If [the Yankees] were home, I’d probably try to talk somebody into letting me play [today],’' Derek Jeter said from his rehab assignment with Double-A Trenton.
Jeter was 2-for-5, including a bunt single, in his third rehab game with three assists and three putouts. He’ll play nine innings both today and tomorrow before returning to the Yankees on Tuesday. He looks safe to activate for next week.
