Red Sox optioned LHP Jake Bennett to minor league camp.
Bennett, who the Red Sox acquired from the Nationals for Luis Perales this offseason, made two spring training appearances, allowing three runs on five hits in three innings while striking out three. The 6'6" left-handed pitcher also flashed upper 90s velocity on his fastball while topping out at 98 mph, which is a significant increase from what he had shown with the Nationals. He also debuted a cutter that pounded the strike zone against righties. He could be a fast-rising prospect for the Red Sox this season. Boston also reassigned catchers Nate Baez and Ronald Rosario, RHPs Osvaldo Berrios, Hobie Harris, Vinny Nittoli, and Devin Sweet, and LHP Jeremy Wu-Yelland to minor league camp.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher #39
Red Sox signed RHP Devin Sweet to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training.
Sweet spent all of last season with the Phillies at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, posting a 5.08 ERA in 51 1/3 innings over 46 appearances. He’ll simply be organizational depth if he makes the Red Sox.
  • FA Relief Pitcher #39
Phillies RHP Devin Sweet elected free agency.
Sweet was removed from Philadelphia’s 40-man roster back in August and spent the entire season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, compiling an inflated 5.08 ERA across 51 1/3 innings over 46 appearances. The 29-year-old righty hasn’t appeared in the big leagues since making seven appearances between the Athletics and Mariners back in 2023.
  • PHI Relief Pitcher #39
Phillies sent RHP Devin Sweet outright to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Sweet went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment following an avalanche of roster moves for the Phillies at the trade deadline. The 28-year-old righty hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since making seven appearances between the Athletics and Mariners back in 2023.
  • PHI Relief Pitcher #39
Phillies designated RHP Devin Sweet for assignment.
The Phillies needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster to accommodate the addition of Matt Manning on Thursday and unfortunately Sweet was the odd man out this time around. The 28-year-old hurler holds a 5.50 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and a 35/19 K/BB ratio across 37 2/3 innings at Triple-A Lehigh Valley on the season. There’s a decent chance he passes through waivers unclaimed and continues to function as extra bullpen depth for the Phillies.
  • PHI Relief Pitcher #39
Phillies optioned RHP Devin Sweet to Triple-A Lehigh Valley
Sweet was trying to win a spot in the bullpen but allowed five runs in 7 1/3 innings this spring while striking out six and walking four. He’ll head back to Triple-A where he posted a 3.91 ERA and 111/38 K/BB ratio across 76 innings in the Tigers organization last year.
  • PHI Relief Pitcher #17
Phillies acquired RHP Devin Sweet from the Tigers for cash considerations.
Sweet heads to Philadelphia after spending all of last year at Triple-A Toledo in Detroit’s system, finishing with a solid 3.91 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 111/38 K/BB ratio across 76 innings (52 appearances). The 28-year-old righty made seven appearances during the 2023 season between the Mariners and Athletics.
  • DET Shortstop #80
Tigers optioned INF Eddys Leonard, INF/OF Wenceel Pérez, RHPs Mason Englert, Wilmer Flores and Keider Montero and C Dillon Dingler, to Triple A Toledo; Reassigned RHP Devin Sweet, LHP Sean Guenther, C Donny Sands and OF TJ Hopkins to minor league camp.
Leonard was reportedly in the running for a bench spot with Detroit, but the club ultimately will send him down to Triple-A to start the season. The 23-year-old posted a .904 OPS in 40 games with Triple-A Toledo in 2023, so there’s likely a chance he gets an opportunity down the road barring an injury.
  • DET Relief Pitcher #31
Tigers sent RHP Devin Sweet outright to Triple-A Toledo.
The 27-year-old hurler had been designated for assignment last week, but he passed through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as extra bullpen depth for the Tigers. He’ll be in big league camp as a non-roster invitee during spring training.
  • DET Relief Pitcher #31
Tigers designated RHP Devin Sweet for assignment.
With the Tigers making Colt Keith’s contract extension official on Monday, they needed to find room for him on the 40-man roster and Sweet drew the short straw this time. The 27-year-old right-hander had been claimed off of waivers from the Giants on January 18 — and had previously been claimed by the Giants from the A’s on December 18 — so it’s unlikely that the Tigers will be able to sneak him through waivers.
