Ben Gamel struck out all four times up against the Red Sox on Tuesday.
Gamel seemed like a decent bet to claim the roster spot on the Braves opened up by the Jurickson Profar suspension after he homered in four of his first six games this spring, but he’s 0-for-10 with seven strikeouts in his last three appearances. That’s good news for Dominic Smith, who would seem to be the alternative to open up as a DH against righties. Of course, the Braves still could pick up a bat at the end of the spring and render the current competition moot.

Ben Gamel delivered a two-run shot for his fourth homer of the spring Sunday against the Rays.
Gamel and Dominic Smith are the Braves’ in-house options to fill in for Jurickson Profar against right-handers. Smith has the better track record of late and is also having a nice spring — he went 3-for-4 today — but Gamel is probably just as reasonable of a bet. He had two hard-hit balls besides the 106-mph homer today.

Dominic Smith hit a two-run homer and walked Thursday in Atlanta’s 9-5 win over Toronto.
Smith’s chances of making the Braves got a huge lift with the Jurickson Profar suspension. Barring an addition, he seems likely to open up as the DH against right-handers and then perhaps hang around in a reduced role once Sean Murphy comes off the injured list. He probably wouldn’t be a mixed-league option.

Dominic Smith went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a walk against the Orioles on Monday.
The 30-year-old Smith, who just signed a minor league deal with the Braves last week, doesn’t seem like a fit for Atlanta’s roster, but that’s not the only team he’s auditioning for this spring. He had a nice run with the Giants last year, batting .284/.333/.417 over 225 plate appearances, though his exit velocity numbers didn’t really back it up.

Braves signed 1B Dominic Smith to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Smith, 30, slashed a respectable .284/.333/.417 with five homers, 33 RBI and a 42/15 K/BB ratio across 225 plate appearances with the Giants during the 2025 campaign. He’ll provide the Braves with quality depth at the first base position.

Giants placed 1B Dominic Smith on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain.
Smith sustained the injury while making a terrific stretch at first base during Friday’s game against the Dodgers. Given the timing of the injury, there’s a chance that it could wind up costing him the remainder of the season. Jerar Encarnacion was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move on Saturday.

Dominic Smith was removed from Friday night’s ballgame against the Dodgers due to a right thigh injury.
Smith suffered the injury while making a terrific stretch at first base to finish a terrific play that started with a diving stop by third baseman Matt Chapman. The severity of the injury remains unclear at the moment. Be sure to check back on his status prior to Saturday’s contest.
  • SF 1st Baseman #7
Dominic Smith hit a two-run homer and drove in four runs in a win over the Orioles on Friday.
Smith also drove in runs with a sacrifice fly and a single to right. The former first-round pick and top prospect has done a solid job with San Francisco as seen in a .284/.339/.414 slash since joining the Giants at the start of June.
  • SF 3rd Baseman #16
Rafael Devers is on the bench for Sunday’s contest against the Brewers.
It appears to be a routine off day for Devers, who rarely misses any time. He’s been scuffling a bit of late, hitting .200 (5-for-25) with two homers over his last seven games. It’ll be Dominic Smith at the cold corner with Wilmer Flores getting an opportunity at DH on Sunday afternoon with Milwaukee rolling with a bullpen game.

Dominic Smith smacked a two-out, go-ahead, bases-clearing three-run single in the sixth inning on Sunday, leading the Giants to a 7-1 victory over the Rays.
The Giants were sitting in a scoreless tie with two outs and no one on in the fifth inning when their offense finally woke up. A pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases for Smith and the 30-year-old first baseman capitalized, jumping on the first pitch that he saw from Ryan Pepiot and smacking his go-ahead knock into right field. He then raced around to score on a double off the bat of Christian Koss. With his 1-for-4 afternoon, Smith is slashing a respectable .281/.340/.404 with three homers, 23 RBI and two stolen bases on the season.
