Hart

The 29-year-old Hart spent most of last season at the Triple-A level between the Mets and Brewers. Still, he’s enjoyed some success in the past and makes sense as a depth addition from the left side.

Hart refused the Mets’ outright assignment to Triple-A Syracuse and will look to find a better situation on the open market. The 29-year-old southpaw pitched in just five games at the big league level in 2019 (only one with the Mets), hurling 7 2/3 shutout innings while posting a 3/4 K/BB ratio.

He is back up to serve as a situational left-hander. He pitched in five games without allowing a run in 7 2/3 for the Brewers and Mets this year. He had a 5.59 ERA in 20 games for the Orioles last year.

The southpaw cleared waivers after being designated for assignment and will remain in the organization as relief depth.

The Mets needed to free up a space on the 40-man roster, and the veteran southpaw was the casualty. There’s a chance that another team could take a chance on him on waivers.

That clears a roster spot for newly-signed reliever Brad Brach. The left-hander has held opponents scoreless over 7 2/3 innings in the big leagues this year, though he’s issued four walks while collecting just three strikeouts during that span. Hart should make it back to Queens at some point.

Hart was just claimed off waivers Saturday. He’ll give the Mets another lefty in the bullpen.

Hart was then optioned to Triple-A Syracuse. The 28-year-old southpaw was designated for assignment earlier in the week after firing 6 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball for the Brewers. He’ll add bullpen depth for the Mets at Triple-A.

Hart threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings of relief for Milwaukee earlier this season, but that was mostly a mirage. He also had a 4.10 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 37 1/3 innings with Triple-A San Antonio.

Hart was needed for three innings of relief on Wednesday against the Rockies, so he was going to be unavailable for the next few days. The left-hander has not allowed a run in 6 2/3 innings this year for the Brewers and should be back up in the majors sometime later this month.
