Eduardo Rodriguez (shoulder) posted nine strikeouts and allowed four runs — three earned — over 4 2/3 innings on Friday in a minor league rehab start for the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League.
No word on the pitch count, which isn’t included in the league’s box scores. However, the important variable here is that Rodriguez got through the rehab outing without any issues and appears poised to rejoin Arizona’s rotation, possibly as early as next week. His return would likely bump Ryne Nelson, who has been pitching outstanding of late, back to the bullpen.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo would only confirm one more start for Ryne Nelson.
Lovullo mentioned that Eduardo Rodriguez (shoulder) would make one more rehab start to build up his pitch count and then could return to the rotation next week. That would mean Nelson would move back to the bullpen despite pitching better than a few of the starters currently in Arizona’s rotation. Hopefully one more good start might convince Lovullo otherwise.

Eduardo Rodriguez (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session on Tuesday.
Rodriguez threw a 55-pitch, three-inning simulated game earlier this week and appears to be close to returning to Arizona’s rotation mix. The 32-year-old southpaw hit the injured list earlier this month with shoulder inflammation. It’s possible he’ll make it back without requiring a minor league rehab start.

Eduardo Rodriguez (shoulder) has resumed throwing.
Rodriguez has progressed to flat-ground throwing and has yet to advance to a bullpen session. It’s an encouraging sign that the 32-year-old lefty has already resumed throwing after hitting the injured list last Friday with shoulder inflammation. We’re anticipating it’ll be at least a couple weeks before he’s back in Arizona’s rotation.

Diamondbacks placed LHP Eduardo Rodriguez on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 15, with left shoulder inflammation.
The 32-year-old southpaw felt something in his shoulder following Wednesday’s start against the Giants. No word yet on the severity of the issue or how long he’ll be sidelined for, but he’ll miss a couple of weeks at a minimum. Scott McGough was recalled from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move on Friday. Expect Ryne Nelson to assume Rodriguez’s spot in the Diamondbacks’ rotation.

Eduardo Rodriguez surrendered four runs in four innings Wednesday in a no-decision against the Giants.
The Diamondbacks scored eight runs in the first four innings, but Rodriguez still failed to win. In fact, the team has totaled 30 runs in his three starts this month with zero wins for Rodriguez. His lone victory in nine starts this season came against the Marlins on April 17. As much as they’d hate to do it with Rodriguez signed through 2027, the Diamondbacks have to be giving some thought to having Ryne Nelson replace him in the rotation. Nelson allowed two runs in three innings of relief today.

Eduardo Rodriguez allowed eight runs in just 2 2/3 innings, but escaped with a no-decision against the Dodgers on Friday.
It’s hard to give up eight runs and get no decision, but Rodriguez did just that thanks to an implosion by the Dodgers’ pitching staff. Still, this was an ugly effort from the 32-year-old that saw him allow nine hits, three doubles, three walks and a homer. Not ideal. Rodriguez now has an abhorrent ERA of 7.30, and he’d be a very risky streaming option against the Giants on Wednesday in San Francisco.

Eduardo Rodriguez allowed four runs (three earned) in 5 1/3 innings and got a no-decision in the Diamondbacks’ 11-9 victory over the Phillies on Sunday.
Rodriguez gave up five hits, walked four and struck out 10. He bounced back in a difficult matchup against the Phillies after allowing nine runs and striking out only one against the Mets in his last start. Rodriguez has a 45:12 K:BB ratio on the season. Despite a 5.92 ERA, his 3.36 xFIP suggests he has pitched much better than that. Rodriguez is lined up to face the Dodgers at home next weekend, but he’s certainly usable despite the difficult matchup.

Eduardo Rodriguez was absolutely clobbered in Tuesday’s loss to the Mets, giving up eight runs on nine hits in his four innings of work.
The 32-year-old southpaw issued one free pass on the night while recording just one punchout. The Mets got to him early and often in this one, striking for four runs in the second inning, including a two-run blast off the bat of Francisco Lindor. They tacked on three more in the third inning — two on a homer by Starling Marte — and then Pete Alonso clubbed a solo homer in the fourth inning. Rodriguez got just three swings and misses on 69 pitches on the night, posting a cringe-inducing CSW of only 14 percent. He’ll look to pick up the pieces as he carries a 6.06 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and a 35/8 K/BB ratio (32 2/3 innings) into a tough battle against the Phillies in Philadelphia on Sunday.

Eduardo Rodriguez allowed four runs Wednesday over 6 1/3 innings against the Rays while not picking up a decision.
Rodriguez, 32, gave up two of those four runs in the seventh inning to turn a solid start into one that was just so-so — at least in terms of results. The southpaw did strike out five in the contest against one walk, but it wasn’t enough for the win. Rodriguez now has an ERA of 4.40, but a much-more impressive K/BB of 34/7 suggests that number is going to go down. His next chance to make good on that is scheduled for Tuesday against the Mets.
