Dodgers recalled C Eliezer Alfonso from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Alfonso gets the nod with the Dodgers sending struggling backstop Chuckie Robinson Jr. to Triple-A to make room. Alfonso will be the backup to Dalton Rushing with Will Smith on the injured list, and isn’t likely to see a ton of playing time while with the club.

The Dodgers are calling up Eliezer Alfonzo from Triple-A Oklahoma City, according to The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya.

Alfonzo finally receives the call to the big leagues after spending nearly a decade in the minors. The 26-year-old Venezuelan native was hitting .313/.392/.422 with one homer at Triple-A Oklahoma City this season. He’ll give the Dodgers some additional catching depth behind Dalton Rushing with the club deciding to move on from Chuckie Robinson, who went 2-for-23 in eight games since being called up.

Dodgers signed C Eliézer Alfonzo Jr. to a minor league contract.

The 26-year-old backstop spent his first eight minor league seasons in the Tigers’ organization. In 2025, he slashed .247/.297/.322 with one homer and 34 RBI in 250 plate appearances between Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo. He’ll add additional catching depth in the upper minors for the Dodgers.

Tigers reassigned INF Eddys Leonard, C Eliézer Alfonzo and RHPs Wilmer Flores and Wilkel Hernandez to minor league camp.

No real surprises here among the latest cuts for Detroit. Leonard is probably the closest to contributing at the highest level after batting .263/.326/.455 with 10 homers and seven steals across 282 plate appearances last year at Triple-A Toledo. Flores, no relation to the Giants first baseman, was limited to just 20 appearances last year in the minors due to injury, but was a highly-touted pitching prospect just two years ago.

Eliezer Alfonzo had a three-homer game in Tuesday’s Venezuelan Winter League action.

Alfonzo, 24, hit .281/.335/.456 while splitting time between catcher and first base for Single-A Jupiter this year. The Cubs invited him to major league spring training back in 2003, but he’s not any kind of a prospect.

Giants catcher Eliezer Alfonzo had arthroscopic surgery Jan. 11 to remove loose bodies from his right elbow, but he should be ready for game action early next month.

Alfonzo, a surprise addition to the 40-man roster after last season, is a candidate to back up Mike Matheny this season, though it’s probably going to be Todd Greene’s job.

Eliezer Alfonzo went 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBI today against the Angels.

Alfonzo, who had knee surgery in January, was making his first start of the spring, though he did so as a DH. He’s a long shot to beat out Todd Greene for duties backing up Mike Matheny.

Giants recalled catcher Eliezer Alfonzo from Double-A Connecticut.

The 27-year-old Alfonzo is a subpar defender, and though he’s usually hit pretty well, he was at just .277/.351/.323 in 65 at-bats since a demotion to Connecticut. Before that, he hit .189 in 74 at-bats in Triple-A. He’s not going to be much of a second catcher for the Giants.

Eliezer Alfonzo’s first major league hit was a two-run homer that helped the Giants beat the Mets 6-4 in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader.

Matt Cain outpitched Orlando Hernandez, and Armando Benitez picked up the save for the Giants. Alfonzo was called up before the game as a replacement for the injured Mike Matheny. He had a .230 average and two homers in 139 at-bats in the minors this season.

Eliezer Alfonzo went 2-for-3 with three RBI in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Padres.

The Giants have gotten quite a bit more offense out of the catcher position since Mike Matheny went down. Alfonzo is hitting .290 with three homers and 11 RBI in 62 at-bats.
